Virgin Atlantic has become the first airline to sign up for Boeing's Sonic Cruiser with an order for between 3 and 6 of the new aircraft. The Sonic Cruiser will be able to fly up to 300 passengers at about 650mph.

bmi british midland inaugurated its first transatlantic service on Saturday 12, May, from Manchester to Washington. Flights are operated daily apart from Tuesday's with an A330-200.

Air 2000 have recently announced an order for 7 Boeing 757-200 aircraft. The new aircraft will feature the 777-style interior and will be delivered between 2001 & 2002.

EasyJet have recently announced a big expansion to their route network from uk airports. The new routes announced are:

Gatwick-Nice - Commences 19 July

Amsterdam-Barcelona - Commences 20 August

Belfast-Glasgow - Commences 21 August

Glasgow-Amsterdam - Commences 21 Augusts

Belfast-Edinburgh - Commences 3 September

British European have announced an order for up to 20 Avro RJX-100 aircraft to replace their, mainly leased, BAe 146 regional jets. The new aircraft will seat up to 112 passengers and the deal is estimated at around $600 million.

Excel Airways, formally Sabre Airways, began operations under the new brand on May 1. The airline operates a fleet of five Boeing 737-800 aircraft along with Boeing 767-200 aircraft operated on behalf of the airline by Air Atlanta during the peak season.
