Welcome to the Ur Ziggurat page

This Ziggurat was built around 2000 B.C. It was built to honor Nanna, the God of the moon, by Ur-Naamu. There were three levels of the Ziggurat. The first level was reached by a ramp, the second was by a spiral stair case, and the third was by stairs as well. We are not sure if there was once a temple on the top because there are no remains of one. The Ziggurat was reconstructed by king Nabonidus around 550 B.C. The outside of this Ziggurat is made of baked bricks which are still in place today. This is the best preserved Ziggurat.

This is the present state of the Ziggurat This is a picture of what it once looked like.
