Sharon, Lois, and Braham's
Elephant Show Live! *
I was 4 or 5 at the time. This was my first concert, and I have a few
memories of it. I remember before the show started, looking down at the stage (from
my balcony seat) and spotting Braham wearing a red lumberjack shirt and getting all
excited. I also remember standing on my chair to see better and getting yelled at,
and singing along and dancing to all the songs which knew because I was such a faithful
viewer of thier television show.
No Doubt *
I saw them in 1996, just before they were mass marketed. They were pretty good in
concert, even though they annoy the hell out of me (they opened for Bush, which is why I
even saw them). Lots of energy and stuff. I remember Gwen resembled Courtney
Love a lot, and wore tight red plastic pants, a yellow tank top, and a furry jacket.
Too bad they had to go and be mass marketed, they were pretty good.
Goo Goo Dolls *
Another opener for the Bush concert. I wasn't paying too much attention
because I was so excited for Bush to come out. They were alright
though. They did a lot of rock which is cool, because they hadn't sold out
yet. The only thing I remember clearly about their performance was a bunch of
topless girls moshing while they played and making the band get all confused.
Bush *
Wow. They were so incredibly great. They were everything I'd thought
they'd be and more. At the time I saw them, they were my absolute favourite
band. If they had sucked, I would've been crushed. But they didn't.
They opened with 'Monkey' and jumped around all cute like. Gavin wore blue pants
with a chain, and a red shirt with a green mohair sweater over it which he removed right
away. He did a solo encore of 'Glycerine' with just his guitar and I almost
melted. But, when they played my favourite Bush song, 'Alien', I practically went
into cardiac arrest.
Frente *
They opened for Dishwalla at a free concert in the park somewhere in downtown
Providence in '96. They were pretty good, and I knew a few of their songs. I
think they sing a song with the line "I get down on my knees and pray" in it or
something. They've since broken up. I met them after the show when they did a
meet and greet, and the autographed my free cup that the sponsering radio station had
given out. I still have it, think it's worth something? ;) ++
Dishwalla *
I don't know if anyone remembers them, they sang that "counting blue
cars" song, and another song that was much better, "charlie brown's
parents". The lead singer was hot, which was my main motivation for going,
though I couldn't see very well which sucked. He had on a green adidas shirt and
sunglasses though, I do remember that much. They were good, and I think they did a
cover of one of Boston's songs but I don't remember which one.
Tribe Called Quest *
Summer before tenth grade...which makes it '98. This was one of their last concerts
ever, in fact, I think it was the second to last. I'm not a big fan of Tribe, but
my cousin is and that's who I went with. They were ok, I guess, even though I didn't
really know any of their songs. They did do a cool cover of 'Benny and the Jets'
though which rocked.
Beastie Boys *
The group Tribe opened for. They were really cool. I'm not a huge fan
of them either, but they totally did rock. We had awesome seats for the show, and I
could see good, which I'm a big fan of. I hate when I can't see at a concert.
Peter Noone *
He opened at the Teen Idols concert, which was in August of '98. He was SO
great, and really got the audience excited. I knew every song he did, since I've
always liked 'Herman's Hermits', and sang along and had a jolly old time throughout his
portion of the show. He did a Who paradoy as well as a Rolling Stones parody which
was funny as hell. I'd love to see him again, as he totally kicked arse.
Bobby Sherman *
He was good with the audience, though his performance left much to be
desired. I wasn't expecting much though, and he was decent I guess. He wore
leather pants which I thought was pretty damn cool for someone of his age to do.
Davy Jones *
He was alright. Davy was the main reason I went to the Teen Idols show (as a
Monkees fan), and I was a bit disappointed. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, as I'd
heard stories of his concerts being somewhat poor, but he did a good job. He wasn't
usually the closer, so I give him props for pulling it off. I tried to hand him
something while he was onstage only centimeters from me, and he wouldn't take it so that
was pretty queer. I knew a lot of his songs and sung along, which was cool.
All three performers were supposed to do a meet and greet after, but didn't because Peter
was sick or something. Moo.
Elvis Costello *
I didn't even remember I saw him until this weekend. I saw him at Mixfest
'98, while it rained all frickin' day, as it did the second day of the festival this
year. Anyway, from what little I remember, he was pretty cool. Elvis is
frickin' awesome, but I didn't know much of him at the time I saw him. I hate when
that happens...I'd definitely see him again, though, now that I know who he is. ;)
The Corrs *
They were pretty good, though I had never heard of them. They also did a
Fleetwood Mac cover (Dreams), which also appears on the cd with Sister Hazel. Not
much else to say about them...umm...their stage banter was cool because they're Irish and
had cool accents. Yeah.
Sister Hazel *
They were ok. The only song I knew was that 'hard to say what it is I see in
you' song, whose name escapes me at the moment. They also did a cover of 'Gold Dust
Woman' which was pretty cool, and appears on the cd "Legacy: A Tribute to
Fleetwood Mac's Rumours", which I coincidently obtained today. All I remember
from their performance was that it was raining a LOT and everyone was getting antsty
because BNL was on next.
Angry Salad **
1.) Mixfest '98. They were really really good. A somewhat unknown
local Boston band that totally rocked. I was RIGHT up front, and I mean RIGHT up
front. Right next to the amps. No wonder I can't hear anything. They
handed out really cool stickers, though I gave mine away. Grr. They also put
crowd pictures on their website, and I'm on it, though
you'll never find out where I am because only I can pick myself out since I know what I
look like. Mwah.
2.) Mixfest '99. They totally rocked. Having seen them last year,
I knew what they were all about and what they'd be like, and they kicked serious
arse. They are a lot of fun, and I reccomend that everyone see them, even if you've
never heard of them. I'm seeing them again on New Years Eve, possibly. They're
really really nice, too. They met TONS of fans and were so kind and gracious about
it, taking the time to talk each and every one of them. I've met a few bands/celebs
in my day, and none have ever been so sweet and nice. They all signed my cd, and
made small talk with me, thanking me for coming out in the rain to see them. They
also took a picture with me and Christine, and were sooo nice about it all. What a
bunch of sweeties. +++
Barenaked Ladies

Another Mixfest band, I saw them in '98. Well I didn't really see
much, but you get the point. They were really awesome and got the crowd singing
along and happy which is always a plus. They did this montage of cover songs that
was hilarious (You Got What I Need?! LOL.) and I knew a whole bunch of their songs
which is soooo great because when you go to a concert and don't know any songs by the
band, it's hard to get into it. I can't remember if it was still raining when they
played, but I DO remember that I left with a whole bunch of mac & cheese in my
hair. You BNL fans need to learn how to aim. Rawr.
The Sugarhill Gang *
They were pretty damn cool. I knew almost every song they did, which was
surprising. I saw them at NovaFest '99, which is a festival at Villanova where my
cousin goes to school and I was helping out with everything that day, which is how I met
them. They were pretty cool. Too bad they had to stop the show a few times
(the audience was getting a BIT rowdy...)...they were giving cds out after, and signing
them, but I didn't get one. Rawr. My cousin and I got our picture taken with
them but it didn't come out. Darn. ++
