Bowls / Quoits / Penny Prick

Bowls is a horseshoe-style game.  The object is to get your ball closest to the target.  In this case, the target is a smaller ball called a "jack".  The "jack" is tossed down the playing field.  Each player has two balls.  In turn, each player casts one ball toward the "jack" with the object of being the closest to it.  After all have thrown their first ball, the second balls are the rolled.  The closest to the "jack" receives one point.  If that player's second ball is the next closest, the player gets two points.  Having a ball actually touching the jack doubles the amount of points scored. The first player reaching a predetermined total wins the match.

Quoits is the exact same game.  The balls are replaced by large, flat stones or pieces of metal.  The "jack" is a smaller version of the quoit.

A third version of this style of game is called Penny Prick.  A peg is stuck into the ground, and a penny is placed on the top.  Players throw their knives at the peg trying either to knock the penny off or to lodge their knife in the ground nearest to the peg.  The closest, of course, gets the penny.
