Chalky, Shirt, Tigger, Lupine, Enigma, Scooby
& ‘Aunt’ Beru …
After the triumphant return
the previous year, everyone’s favourite Timelord was back !! So much had happened since Chalky, Shirt
& Tigger had excitedly gathered in Shirt’s front room to watch the first
Eccleston episode (see CDS…First Night Nerves). Series Two and Three had
been announced, swiftly followed by the shock news of Eccleston’s departure,
and the ensuing regeneration. Having only had a limited look at new Doctor, David
Tennant, in “The Christmas Invasion”, all were looking forward to the start of
Series Two (or Season 28).
The original half-hearted plan
had been for the gang to meet round Chalky & Tigger’s, but when Enigma
& Scooby offered their den as a location, it was gratefully accepted. All
were invited, and only Dufus was unable to attend.
Shirt was the first to arrive,
catching Enigma & Scooby still tidying up, having walked into their block
through a propped-open door. A few minutes later, Chalky and Tigger rang the
intercom, and it became clear that the unit in the flat only worked one-way,
with Enigma continually repeating the same phrases. Shortly after this, Lupine
and ‘Aunt’ Beru arrived, along with two other friends, Gwyneth & her young
daughter, Jabe (the latter a big new series fan).
“Strictly Dance Fever” ending,
Enigma produced nibbles, which all dug into as the excitement level grew as 7.15pm
approached. As the continuity announcer said the magic words – “Doctor Who”, a reverent
silence fell over the room, broken only by the occasional sound of chomping,
and shrieking (the latter from Tigger, scaring Jabe more than the episode).
They laughed, they cried, and finally as it ended, applauded.
Tigger then produced TARDIS
cupcakes (which to Shirt’s disgust were not bigger on the inside), whilst the
gang watched the BBCi Series 2 Preview that Shirt had recorded off of Freeview.
Next they shared two TARDIS Easter-eggs (one belonging to Enigma & one to
Chalky), whilst discussing the episode.
Then things took a surprising
turn with ‘Aunt’ Beru showing Scooby the tattoo on her head, asking him to
identify it. Mumbled comments from the others along the lines of it comprising
three-sixes were ignored. It proved to be the logo of the Empire from “Star
Wars”. Enigma then showed off her Seal of Rassilon tattoo.
To round off the evening, the
gang engaged in a marathon game of “Guess The Theme Tune” from Enigma’s large
Theme Tune CD archive. Sixties ATC shows proved to be group’s major undoing,
with the nuances between “The Persuaders”, “The Champions”, “The Protectors” et
al being lost on them.
It being past Jabe’s bedtime
(and Shirt’s), the gang dispersed, wending their ways home.
