Lady Lucy Duff Gordon
1863- 1935

Lucy like her father was a bridge builder. His was of steel, hers were of cloth. She guided the women of era into the demands of the 20th century by easing their manner of dress. She was a very successful woman and collected her number of firsts:

She was the first to use mannequins in the presentation of her collections.
She was the first to do away with the constrictions of the corset.
She was the first to introduce slits in skirts for ease of the moment.
And lastly she coined the word "chic" without which we would be speechless when speaking of fashion today.
