Zeke's Scorched Earth Policy
Zeke's Scorched Earth Policy (March 13, 2000)

I hope you guys were watching the Raptors-Sonics game and caught Isiah Thomas's declaration that he put the Raptors together. I heard Butch Carter's response, something about "Junior's scorched earth policy". What's the deal with Zeke? He did a lousy job with the Raptors. If it wasn't for Glen Grunwell's great personnel moves, the Raptors would be mired in another losing season, like Vancouver.

I guess Zeke could argue that he draft McGrady (who wasn't playing when Zeke was there), he traded for Christie and it was his deft drafting of Camby and Stoudamire that led directly to the acquisition of Oakley and Davis. But it wasn't Zeke who traded for Oakley and Davis. It was Glen Grunwell. If it wasn't for him, the Raptors would be a laughing stock. Players didn't want to come to Toronto. Remember Kenny Anderson's refusal to suit up for Toronto? Grunwell fixed all that. He packaged Anderson to Boston, got Chauncey Billups, Dee Brown, John Thomas and others. He flipped Billups for a 1st round pick and traded that for Antonio Davis. Grunwell also flipped picked with Golden State, trading down a spot, getting some money and picked Vince Carter. Grunwell has made some deft moves.

Zeke made some bad moves. Too many to mention. Did you know that B.J. Tyler is still on the payroll. Check how many games BJ played as a Raptor. None. He was picked up in the expansion draft, never played a game, and is still on the payroll for over $1 million a year. Victor Alexander? Vincenzo Esposito? Carlos Rogers? How about Benoit Benjamin, Oliver Miller (how many times), etc.

What's worse, is that Zeke makes his statement on national TV. It's like he's angling himself for a new job? Doesn't he own the CBA? Isn't that his full time job? Damn him!
