Minutes: The minutes of the April 14, 1998 meeting were accepted with the following corrections/additions: Correspondence: Gary made a motion to fund the expenses of two delegates to the National Convention in Las Vegas, seconded by Judi, and affirmed by the board. R.E.H./C.E.H./Awards: 0.1 ceu was awarded for the April presentation on Adding Value Through Customer Service Treasurers Report: Checking Balance is $2,032.62 and Savings Balance is $2,113.61 for a total of $4,146.23. A motion was made by Diana, seconded by Gary, and passed, to accept the treasurers report. A motion was made by Diana, seconded by Judi, and passed to reimburse Clarence for the registration fee at the National Convention in Las Vegas, NV. A motion was made by Gary, seconded by Judi, and passed to reimburse Clarence for a $7 parking fee used by Willie Mieldon and Clarence for a meeting with Kevin Spivey of the Four Seasons regarding possible IEHA membership. Correspondence: A new and impressive Invitation to apply for membership form was received from National. A VHS training module worth about 0.3 ceu is now available for $99 through Dave Herron of Coast Wide. Donations were solicited for the Education Foundation for use as scholarships. A motion was made by Clarence, seconded by Diana, and passed to donate $25 from chapter funds to the Education Foundation, and to encourage the general membership to at least match that amount as well. Three new members have joined our chapter: 1) Hart F. Sugarman, of Holland America Line in Seattle, 2) Sean G. Thornton, of Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, and 3) Scott G. Austin of Harry A. Stroh Association in Anchorage, Alaska. Unfinished Business: An extended and detailed brain-storming session then took place regarding possible fund raising events. The following ideas will be investigated further: 1) A Book Sale held in conjunction with Barnes & Noble (or other vendor) to be pursued by Diana. 2) An All-Day (5-6 hr) Seminar in September or October with one-hour presentations on four of the topics suggested below, possible speaker in {brackets}, follow-up person in [brackets]: a) Asbestos Safety {Mary Ann of Swedish}, [Diana], b) Multi-Resistant Bugs {Mary Ann of Swedish}, [Diana], c) Multi-Sensitivity Allergies & Indoor Air Quality Issues {Mary Ann of Swedish}, [Diana], d) Computers (ESD Internet Sites, Email, ESD Staffing & Supply Tracking Programs), [Gary], e) Security Issues, [Bill], f) Human Resources Issues, [uncertain], g) REH/CEH Certification Importance & Procedure, [Judi], h) Linen Cost Minimization keyed to our membership, {Gary Butromowitz}, [uncertain], i) Scholarship Application Procedure, [Judi], j) Safety Issues like OSHA, violence in the workplace, asbestos, [Bill], 3) Location of Event in the South Seattle / South Sound area, preferably at a member facility or donated room with reasonable parking availability, a) Swedish Medical Center, b) Coast Wide Conference Room, c) Tacoma General Auditorium, 4) Cost Structure (tentative): $45 for 1-month pre-registration; $55 during last month; $60 at door. 5) Official Membership Booth to be staffed at the event. Reimbursement was approved by the board with the proviso that no others would be approved until a budget committee was formed and prepared a budget for such expenses in the future. Plans for attendance at the National Convention were reviewed. Six members of our chapter will be attending as delegates: 1) Bill Parshall, 2) Diana Ronning, 3) Judy Benjamin, 4) Clarence Bennett, 5) Ken Whitney, and Mark Jupiter. Judi McCool will also be attending, and some discussion took place about her also being a delegate, but she decided to decline the financial assistance and full delegate responsibilities. Plans for the upcoming All-Day Seminar were firmed up. A date and place were chosen tentatively as September 24, 1998 at Swedish Medical Center, Seattle. The primary intent/target audience of the seminar was discussed and determined to be offering pertinent information to our members and potential members to assist them with their educational (ceu) requirements for maintaining/obtaining CEH/REH status. The topics chosen to be presented from the list in last months minutes will emphasize the top three areas indicated by our last survey of members preferences unless countered at todays general meeting: 1) Safety Issues, 2) Regulatory/Compliance Issues, and 3) Computer Applications for Environmental Services. Gary Butrymowicz declined to present another linen seminar, since he was already doing one for OSHA. Thecs for the seminar presented in last months minutes was finalized by consensus the Judi nominated Carole Williams, seconded by Leo, to do publicity for the seminar. Diana Ronning reported that she had made contact with representatives of Barnes & Noble to pursue the possibility of a Book Sale fund-raising event during the holiday season (November/December). New Business: Judi McCool announced that she would be leaving Madigan and the Puget Sound Chapter for a new position in Corvallis, Oregon. Judis energetic efforts on our behalf will be sorely missed.
