Letter from Ed (George Edward) Jones, S2/c, from Blaine Tennessee, U.S.S. Indianapolis, Div.5, Gunner, to his sister Christine Purkey.

         December 25, 1944

Hello Sis,

Merry Christmas
Tell everyone hello and Merry Christmas for me.  I guess everyone is having a big Christmas Dinner at home today.  I guess we will have a good Christmas chow today too.
Ha!  The radio is playing “sleep in heavenly peace”.   Several of the boys are sitting around writing letters but their minds are at home.  And now everyone is listening to the Pacific War news.  Ha!  It sounds pretty good too.
Guess mother and dad are thinking of me today.  Hope they are having a Merry Christmas.
Tell Carver (Purkey) and Fred (Purkey) Merry Christmas.  I would like to see that Fred.  I bet Santa came to see him last night.  Santa came to see me last night and brought me a greeting and four letters.
I will close, it is time for chow.  Wonder what it is?

         Love,

         Brother
