Seattle's Premier Pop Music Label

The Jerden Records Online Discography

Jerden Records was founded in 1960 in Seattle, Washington by Jerry Dennon and Bonnie Guitar after they left Dolton Records. The label released a total of 137 singles between then and 1968, when the label closed shop, not to mention another 36 on the Picadilly subsidiary, and at least another 11 on the offshoot Burdette label, for a total of 183. And that doesn't even take into account the 50-some issues on another Dennon label, Panorama! In that time frame, however, they not only captured a lot of what was going on in the Northwest music scene, but also gave the world THE ultimate party record (I speak, of course, of The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie"), as well as such legendary acts as The Bards, Danny O'Keefe, Don & The Goodtimes, and their most prolific artists, Jeff Afdem & The Springfield Rifle (who released more singles combined, under various names, on the Jerden, Burdette and Picadilly labels - 16 in all - than any others in the Jerden stable. In case you're wondering, Bobby Wayne, with 11, came in second, and The Live Five, with 7, were in 3rd place). This site is my small attempt to immortalize Jerry Dennon's contribution to Northwest music.

(Like, any record bearing the Jerden name hasn't already done so?)

Now, a few brief words about the basic format of this site: The discography is written in plain ASCII text format, to make it easy to read even if all you have is a text browser. (I'd considered doing it in table format, but I'd already done one such discography page that way, and while it looks good on a web browser, reading it on 'plain text' leaves a lot to be desired. Printing it out in 'plain text' is even worse.) The font itself is Verdana, which I'm told is easiest to read on a web browser. Whatever.

Incidentally, while several Jerden acts did manage to be placed on major labels (The Kingsmen on Wand being the most notable; but there were also The Bards on Capitol and Parrot; Dave Lewis on A&M; and The Springfield Rifle on ABC and Tower, to name a few), the focus of the site at present is confined to just the four Jerden labels themselves. Which explains why, although the Kingsmen released a slew of Wand 45s, you'll only find them once here. But fear not, all you completists; I'll be adding a related releases section soon.

Oh, one more thing: A few of these records were released with different artists on each side, and just as many different records were released with the same catalog numbers. (Quite a few labels did this sort of thing, so just in case you think I was falling asleep at the keyboard when I was compiling all this, now you know better.)

All right. End of introduction. Now we get to the fun part... the discography itself. Ready? Here we go...

NOTES: Obviously, a site such as this one does not just happen without a LOT of research. Therefore, I wish to extend my thanks to both The Delerium Music Archives and The International Music Discographies Home Page for making the research that much easier for me.

Additional information gleaned from Don Rogers' book, "DANCE HALLS, ARMORIES AND TEEN FAIRS" (Music Archives Press, 1985, out of print).

Since nobody gets it right the first time, let me add the following caveat: It is entirely possible that I may have missed a few releases here and there. If I have, please take a minute and let me know. E-mail me at jerrywithers@hotmail.com.

Special thanks for inspiration through the years go to: The Bards, The Kingsmen, Don & The Goodtimes, Stefan Arngrim, Danny O'Keefe, Robert O. Smith (aka Thorndike Pickledish), Ian Whitcomb, The Sonics, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Gail Davies, The Dynamics (from whence sprang not only Jeff Afdem, The Springfield Rifle, and Plant Two, but also Larry Coryell), Ian Whitcomb, Bonnie Guitar... and anybody else fortunate enough to have recorded for "One of the Pacific Northwest's Great Record Labels" at that pivotal time we call the 1960's.

Additional thanks go to the two radio stations where I heard some of this stuff the first time, KORD (Wherefore art thou, Eddie The Chicken?) and KALE in the Tri-Cities, Washington.

Finally, very special thanks go out to the man who inspired this site in the first place, Jerry Dennon, one of the last true gentlemen in the record industry. Visit the official Jerden Records website.

This site is dedicated to anybody who ever rocked in the great state of Washington!

The Jerden Online Discography was compiled and edited by Jerry D. Withers. This site is mainly for information and research purposes only; however, since the content is pretty much public domain, feel free to quote from it at length if you wish. This site has no connection whatsoever with the official Jerden Records website, Jerden Records, SoundWorks International, Inc., or Mr. Jerry Dennon.

This site is dedicated to Kimberly Longacre.
