Now, hot on the heels of our acclaimed Northwest Battle of the Bands Volume 1: Flash And Crash, we proudly present Volume 2: Knock You Flat! with 25 more tracks from the Jerden vaults, all in that inimitable savage, guitar- and organ-driven ‘60s Northwest fuzz-punk style! * previously unreleased
** previously unreleased alternate version

* Our first volume of the Northwest Battle Of The Bands series was a resounding critical and commercial success, confirming that this definitive, exhaustive series is gonna be the ONLY way to dig the genius of the Pacific Northwest 1960s scene, as preserved in the bulging tape vault of Jerry Dennon's Jerden-Piccadilly-Panorama garage rock empire. As with the first volume, we base this sophomore effort on Dennon's original Battle Of The Bands albums. His Volume Two was released in 1968 and reflected the poppier side of the catalogue, but we have made sure to replace any clunkers with choice material by the bands in question. And there are some killers in store for ya!
* Dennon's two mid-period classic singles, Don & The Goodtimes "You Were A Child" and the Springfield Rifle's "100 Or Two" appear in best-ever sound quality, crystal-clear but intact with the Northwest punch that should have made 'em monsters. The former debuts in a power-packed true stereo mix - having previously only ever been available in horrendous reprocessed goop - while you foot-fetishists out there get the bonus of Jeff Afdem crooning the delights of Nordstrom shoes on an alternate "100 Or Two"!
* Our favourite sons of Jerden, Rocky & The Riddlers, feature with a truly amazing version of "You Weren't Using Your Head" - cut at the "Flash & Crash" session - that outstrips the Wailers' original 10-to-1 for raunch, whilst the Liberty Party return with another unished '66 wonder, "Please Help The Man". Gordon Kjellberg, you're my hero! More exhumations from the vault include great unknown cuts by the New Yorkers, the Raymarks and another super-kool nugget from the pen of the Goodtimes' pop genius Ron Overman, "Running Not Walking". Wow!
* There's a cryptic alternate take of the Mercy Boys spooky "Lost & Found" and plenty of rarely-heard Piccadilly singles like "How Much Lovin'" (fuzz overload!), "Along Comes The Man" (Raiders to the max!) and "Feelin' Down'"(yow!) Plus anything you might be familiar with is gonna sound WAY better fidelity-wise - speakers will topple to "I Can't Make It", the Sonics wail on "High Time" and Gil Bateman screams right into your ear on "Daddy Walked in Darkness"(here present without the goofy 'spoons' solo, so we can dig more of that blistering lead)
* Plus of course loads of info, pix, memorabilia and quotes from the guys that were there. Believe us, we wouldn't be hyping ya if we didn't think you'd dig this volume as much as the last. And there's so much more to come!
* P.S. Look out for a sister release on the Ace label proper, also available this summer. "Riot City!" is just that, a 31-track grab bag full of the rocking instrumental sounds that made the Northwest so great. Hip'n'heavy Hammond workouts, cool surf guitar, and that wailing Seattle sax from the likes of Rocky (the great title tune, natch), the Imperials, Beachcombers, Counts, Good Guys, Classics, Raymarks, James Henry & The Olympics, Johnny & The Velvetones, and more, all cut between 1961 and 1965 and sounding better than ever. It's a total party! (Alec Palao, from the Bomp Archives, April 16, 2001)
