Flirting with Disaster
Ben Stiller, Tea Leoni, Patricia Arquette, Lily
Tomlin, Alan Alda,
Mary Tyler Moore
Arquette and Stiller are a young married
couple with a newborn who have resorted to setting dates
to have sex. Stiller seeks the help of Leoni to locate
his biological parents which eventually takes the trio on
an adventure across the country running into all kinds of
nut cases. This absurd comedy really takes you beyond
strangness but keeps you laughing all the way through.
Two Days in the Valley
Danny Aiello, Eric Stoltz, James Spader, Teri Hatcher
Aiello plays a washed up hit man who gets
back in the business for a job with James Spader to take
out Teri Hatcher's ex-husband. Hatcher plays a seemingly
naive olympic skier who wakes up covered in blood with
her ex lying next to her. Stoltz is the beat cop who
happens upon the crime scene and plays the wanna-be
detective to try and solve this twisted, off-beat murder
mystery.
Playing God
David Duchovny, Timothy Hutton, Anjelina Jolie
Duchovny is the former surgeon who had his medical
license revoked after losing a patient when he tried to
operate while doped up. Duchovny saves a man's life after
a shooting in a bar he frequents to buy drugs. Timothy
Hutton is brilliant as the twisted arms smuggler who
wants to thank Duchovny for saving his friend's live by
paying him for saving saving his goons after shootings go
awry. Jolie is Hutton's girlfriend who falls for
Duchovny. Look for unexpected twists in this dark drama.
Sliding Doors
Gwenyth Paltrow, Jean Tripplehorn
This refreshingly unique film shows the
different paths a young PR exective's (Paltrow) life
takes after being fired from her job based on whether she
misses or catches her train. When she catches the train she ends up
meeting a man who she ends up falling in love with.
When she misses her train she finds her live in boyfriend in bed with another woman
(Tripplehorn). The
first time director, Peter Howitt, takes the viewer back
and forth between both realities, making for a very
interesting movie.
True Romance
Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper,
Christopher Walken, Brad Pitt, Michael Rappaport
True Romance as it's title suggests is a
romance disquised by violence. Written by Quentin
Tarantino, this film is the real "Pretty
Woman," the story of a prostitute (Arquette) who
meets her night in shining armour (Slater) who rescues
her from that life and kills her former pimp. The two
flee with a stolen bag of cocaine in hopes of selling it
to start a new life. The couple is relentlessly pursued
by Walken, the owner of the stolen coke. What ensues is a
bloody masacre where only the two lovebirds are left
standing, and that is True Romance.
