When Jana Fredriksen sings, you are struck by the depth of feeling and raw magic. With a youthful charm and a voice that is somehow both unique and familiar, Jana captivates her audience. Jana (pronounced "Johnna") was born May 10th, 1979 in San Bernadino, California. Jana's father was a Christian missionary and by age 4, she was singing in churches with her sister Jessi, traveling and living in a yellow 1965 International school bus with her family and fellow travelers. Jana's family traveled through 31 states during her childhood, with stops in Colorado, North Carolina, Nevada, and Canada as well. The longest stop was in Texas, where Jana's childhood memories include frequent bus trips to Mexico to distribute food, medical supplies, and clothing to the needy. Her father's ministry provided with a wealth of experiences for Jana, developing a grace and maturity unusual for one so young. Jana's world has always been filled with music. First gospel, then later rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and country music...from Madrigal to Patsy Cline, from Aretha Franklin to Janis Joplin...all have influenced the music that Jana makes today. Jana's first stage experience was at Whispering Pines Lounge in Houston, Texas. Soon after, at age 17, she provided harmonies on an album recorded by a Houston country duo, Evans and Walker. Jana's family moved to the Mobile area of southern Alabama in 1997 where she met and fell in love with Kenneth Fredriksen. Kenneth, now her husband, is Jana's biggest fan and wholeheartedly encourages and supports her love of music and her ambitions for a career in performing. Jana performs at songwriter showcases in the Mobile area, as well as regularly visiting Nashville to perform at venues such as the Douglas Corner Cafe, the Broken Spoke, and the Gibson Cafe. Stephen Veal, a Mobile area songwriter, brought Jana to the attention of songwriter/producer Ace Ford during the Frank Brown Memorial Songwriter's Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. This association produced a five song demonstration recording of Jana's talent that is available from Adobe Walls Productions. |
