Symptoms of Diabetes

As to the request to many visitors, I have included this page to inform people of the symptoms of diabetes.  If you wish to learn more about the symptoms, click on the bullet to expand the "e-thought".

Type 1:

Some, but not all, symptoms that are common to type 1 (juvenile onset) diabetes.

Constant Thirst
You find yourself drinking more liquids than you normally do.  If this occurs, try to drink as much water as possible.
The less carbonated beverages, the better.
AVOID ALCOHOL!!  This can cause further complications as well as subject a person, not knowing of being a diabetic, to hypoglycemia.
Frequent Urination
You find yourself going to the bathroom more often, usually expelling more urine than you normally do..
Your urine looks like a darker yellow, with a visible orange hue.
Change in Vision
Changes in vision are not un-common in diabetics when blood sugar levels elevate above a tolerable level or below a tolerable level.  An exact blood glucose number is impossible because of different tolerances in different people.
Vision is usually corrected when blood sugars stabilize.
Vomiting, Nausea (symptoms of DKA, see below)
If diabetes hasn't been detected in a 1-2 week time period, then symptoms of DKA may occur
DKA -- Diabetic Ketoacidosis
DKA is a condition where the blood sugar levels in a person become too high.  In most cases, blood sugar can be over 1,000 mg/dL.
DKA is a LIFE THREATENING CONDITION!!!  If you feel DKA coming on, seek immediate medical attention.
DKA can cause permanent eye, kidney, muscle and nerve damage if not treated in time.
DKA's main symptom is sleepiness and dramatic weight loss
