The   Feast

Hi! My name is Theo and I'm a bear. I live in the Forrest and in the winter I sleep. One day my friend Ricky Raccoon said to me, "Have you eer tasted snow?" I had to say NO! "Why?" Asked Ricky. "I guess it's because bears aren't awake when it snows. We sleep all winter silly." "You don't know what you're missing bear." I couldn't stop thinking about what Ricky said. All summer I played and i made all kinds of friends, but I wondered what snow was really like. I decided to visit my friend Jeremy fish. He lives in a bowl. I met him one day when I was looking through the window of a cabin I saw by the creek. Jeremy knows a lot of things and I thought that maybe he could tell me what snow is like. "Sorry bear, I have never tasted snow," said Jeremy. "I've seen it fall from the sky and cover the gound outside. But none of it ever got in here. I guess you'll just have to wait and taste it for yourself." "Thanks Jeremy, maybe I will, mama's calling me, I better go." Bear went home, it was nearly bedtime. Mother bear had a great big dinner for them. Bear and his sisters ate and ate, then they all went to sleep. Bear kept on thinking about the snow as he fell asleep. He slept for a while, but his dreams were full of ice and snow. In his dream there was a huge table with snow that looked like food, some looked like grapes, apples, oranges, pears, and berries. Another looked like turkey, fish, and ice cream. Bear woke up and crawled out of the cave. Everything was white! IT SNOWED! Snow was strange, sort of powdery, but cold and damp. He rolled around in it and played in it. Then he tasted it. "It doesn't taste like anything. He tasted more and waited a bit and tasted more, now it tasted like cold water. "The picnic baskets I found were better and so was the fish my sisters and I got from the stream". By this time bear was cold and wet, and because he woke up sooner than he should, he was very tired. Bear remembered how warm it was with his mother and sisters and he crawled back in the cave. He snuggled with his family and as he dozed off he said, "Next spring, I'll tell Ricky his snow wasn't that great" then he smiled and fell asleep.
