Our Sigsworth Family

Our oldest recorded ancestor was John Sigsworth, born before 1615 in England. When I visited Sutton on the Forest in 1998 I only found one Sigsworth headstone in the cemetery that read – Robert Sigsworth of Huby Who died on June 1 1871 Aged 64 years Also Catherine wife of the above who died 17th Mar 1878 Aged (could be 68) years. The bottom line reads Edward Sigsworth (no further information). This could be the son of our ancestor John, who was born about 1640 in Oswaldkirk, died at an unknown date at Sutton on the Forest. It is not known if he had a son named Robert.

Sutton on the Forest (King’s Land) is about 9 miles north of the center of York. Farlington is about 3 miles northeast of Sutton on the Forest. Easingwold is about 6 miles northwest of Sutton on the Forest, and Langtoft (without the extension with Cottam) is twenty-four miles due east of Sutton on the Forest and six miles north west of Burton Agnes.
