Keya's Page What's Up World I am Keya I am a young intelligent black female who is a graduate of Bennett College, May 20 2001. What most people don't know about me is that I am a vegetarian. I believe it is wrong to kill animals for food. The name Keya has a lot of meanings. According to the Native Americans of the Lakota tribe Keya means turtle. The turtle stands for nuturing, caring and mothering, also one who carries the weight of the world on her back. But in India and Bangladesh Keya means flower.
    ALL ABOUT DELTA
    In 1913 at Howard University, twenty-two strong willed young black women envisioned and founded an organization pledged to serious endeavors, scholarship and public service to mankind. On these principles, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded. Today, it stands strong, with a membership of over 200,000 members as a beacon of hope and light striving to uphold the image of love and public service. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, incorporated in 1930, operates under what is known as theFive point thrust which are:
  1. Economic Develpoment
  2. Educational Development
  3. International Awareness and Involvement
  4. Physical and Mental Health
  5. Political Awareness and Involvement
      Delta Girls
     "The Delta girl is one who has been given the opportunity of education and broad development: She is one who has enjoyed the privileges of culture and selected environment... It is pleasing to a heartfelt depth to see her not as self-centered, and desirous of selfish power, not wanting the plaudits of people, not wanting glory but with a purpose which directs her activities and all that she may control toward lifting somebody else."

      I am proud to say that I am a Jamerican. My mom is Jamaican and my dad is American. Let me tell you about Jamaica. Geography: Jamaica is the third largest Caribbean island, measuring 146 miles at its widest point. Primarily of volcanic origin, the lush island features a mountain ridge that peaks at Blue Mountain which is 7,402 feet high. Many white-sand beaches and clear seas ring the island. People: The people of Jamaica have emerged from a historical process in which peoples of all the continents were brought together within a well-defined social hierarchy. The vast majority are of African descent, but there are well established, but small, Indian, Chinese, Arab, and European communities as well. Jamaican culture is a particular synthesis of all these cultures. Popular culture is heavily influenced by the African heritage, while formal behavior is unmistakably British in style. While it is arguable that the popular speech of Jamaicans is a distinct language from English, it was derived largely from English which has been the official language for over 300 years. The influence of the USA is becoming more evident, reflecting the closer ties with that society.
