• Try Again - Aaliyah... from the Romeo Must Die soundtrack.  After seeing the video, all I could think was "what happened to her?".  She use to be someone I considered good-looking, but now? I'm not going to be mean, but something happened along the way.  None-the-less, the single is one I haven't been able to stop listening to.  I know it'll become overplayed, either on radio or by me, but I'll enjoy it while it's still fresh

• It Feels So Good - Sonique... all I can think about when seeing the video is how much she looks like Theo Huckstable from the Cosby Show in the early years.  Aside from her appearance, the song has a good beat to it, even if it's one that has been used before in dance songs over the years.  I'm still a fan of this type of music and this one gets me moving each time it comes on

• Blue - Eiffel 65... ok, so this one has been overplayed from the first day it was released, yet for some reason I can't turn it off each time it comes on.  Who would have thought 3 guys from Italy could rule the world, for a few months anyways.  Too bad their other songs aren't as good, or maybe that's a good thing since we need a break from them after this song, but what a legacy they've left with their first release

• Oops!...I Did It Again - Britney Spears... yes, I know, it's a song by someone so many people hate seeing/hearing, but I like the song.  I know it sounds like her first single, Baby, One More Time, but it's still one of those songs I'd listen to each time it comes on.  The part of the song I can do without is that Titanic thing in the middle.  What was she/producers thinking when they thought some dialog in the middle of a song would work? I don't see the logic in it, oh well, that part sucks.  The video isn't something to look at, she's in a red plastic suit, hence dubbing her 'plastic girl'...the dance moves I could live with, but that's about it.  If anyone complains about these comments, I swear I don't have a thing for her anymore, hehe

• Otherside - Red Hot Chili Peppers... it's been a while since these guys have put out 2 solid singles in a row.  The other song, which is listed below this, brought them back into the spotlight with vengence.  Both singles went to number one on our local authority of the music world, MuchMusic, but I have to say it was well deserved.  Now if only they could sing the songs live like how the studio recording sounds, I'd be one happy little Canadian

• Scar Tissue - Red Hot Chili Peppers... I don't know how long it has been for these guys, but the time off sure paid off.  This single was, and still is, one of my favourites. The thing that got me as soon as I heard this song the first time was the smooth guitar melodies, unlike a lot of songs out there that blitz you with as much as possible.  There are exceptions to that rule, but it's nice to hear songs that don't overpower you from time to time

• Say My Name - Destiny's Child... there really isn't a whole lot to the lyrics of this song, but somehow it works for the entire song.  Nevermind the video, as some people like to think is the only reason I like this song, but it's a catchy little song

• He Wasn't Man Enough For Me - Toni Braxton... I still think she needs to wear more clothes, but at least her songs are pretty good, when they aren't ballads.  Her ballads tend to wear out their welcome at an alarming rate but her more catchy dance songs have a longer staying power, which this one happens to be.  Hopefully this one won't get overplayed (like that ever happens with songs these days) because I like this one

• Top Of The World - Rascalz feat. Barrington Levy... normally I'm not a big fan of rap, but this song is pretty good.  I especially like the Barrington Levy part..and it doesn't hurt that the Rascalz are a Canadian rap band that doesn't totally suck.  I'm sure lots of people haven't heard this one, I'd say go check it out

• Bye, Bye, Bye - N Sync... ok, why is this song in here? To tell you the truth, I don't know myself! I guess the only reason it's here is because I've heard it every morning for 3 solid months on my way to wherever (I blame Kiss 92 and their Top 7@7 for that).  Anyways, I'm not saying it's a song I'll definately listen to or go out of my way to hear, but I won't/haven't turned it off when it comes on...yes, I know I'm strange...sue me if you must...no wait, my 'tallica boys might do that in the end, but that's another story...and on another page, if you haven't seen it already

• S Club Party - S Club 7... yes, another fluff song, but there are days when fluff goes a long way in curing a mood I'm in.  It's not such a bad song, though if you're a serious music lover, one who looks for meaning in songs, then this isn't for you.  If you want fun, then this is your cup of tea

• Get It On Tonite - Montell Jordan... find it strange I'm interested in this song? Well it is a good song, and it's one of those songs you can listen to at night, even if you're not in the mood to do anything physical, as the song would suggest.  But, it is a nice "slow jam" song that has stuck around for a while, at least at the time I'm writing this.  I'd actually put this on my next mixed CD

• Better Off Alone - Alice Deejay... not much lyric-wise on this song, but the dance beat is what got me liking this song.  The lyrics, what there is of it, fits in nicely with the song.  I guess being a dance/techo beat lover is the main reason I like this song a lot.  I've heard people say it's not so good because it's just like the others out there, but the same could be said for many songs out there, so lay off or else I'll beat you!

• House Of Dreams - Blue Rodeo... this group isn't totally what it's name implies.  They aren't a country band, they do know how to play at a mid-rock type level, though their strong point are the ballads.  This is a sad love song about losing the love of your life...sounds cheesy, but the song has a lasting impact, especially to those that have felt the sorrows in those terms.  I guess I just love feeling blue at times because I can play this one quite often

• Until It Sleeps - Metallica... I just had to include some stuff from my boys.  This was one of their songs that incorporated their "new" style, or more like James' new vocalizing style, as compared to their early days.  He's doing different things with his voice, displaying a broader range of his tallent...the end result, a fuller, richer sound that makes the band sound more whole.  They've been criticized for "selling out" on their heavy metal status, but what's wrong with growing up and spreading your wings? This song has it all, their hard edge, the darker side of lyrics and James' new vocal range.  Maybe hearing a band grow is what keeps me coming back to them for more...or the element of not knowing what their new sound might be like, whatever it is, this song was a key part of their growing as a band

• Would? - Alice In Chains... when a rock/alternative band decides to do a song that sounds mature, meaning a cleaned up version that they're not normally doing, it stands out.  In this case, this song was a high point for the band.  The single appeared on the Singles' soundtrack, and was nominated for a Grammy, but lost out to something (who can figure out the Academy).  It's a strong song that still has their haunting sound screaming through the quite vocals of Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell.  This song is just one of many teriffic songs on their break-through CD, Dirt.  If you haven't heard it, you should check it out, that is if you like the heavier sound in music

• I Disappear - Metallica... hey, have you gone to see a movie lately? Ok, so neither have I, but if you do go, or have gone to see Mission: Impossible 2, you might have heard a familiar sounding band in there.  Yes, that's right, good 'ol Metallica have been generous enough to lend a track to the soundtrack.  At least it's something for us fans of the band while they're in between CDs.
  As for the song, well it's Metallica, what else needs to be said? I rather enjoy the song, especially James' snarly voice throughout the song, plus it's one song you have to turn the volume up to 11, sit back and enjoy the full effects of the boys' powerful music.  There aren't any speed metal type guitar or drum parts, as with their early works.  What there is in this song is their mature approach to music as heard in their last 3 CD releases.  This song truly deserves a listen, don't be scared off by their name or their reputation as a true metal band
