THIS WEEK'S TIPS
A.____Style and Strategy
Do you give your readers a clear sense of what you want their reaction to be,
as in want them to do with the legal document you are submitting?
Is this visible
from either the title alone or the title plus the first paragraph or two?
Of course, you reply.
But do you give your reader a key to understanding
why they should do for what you are asking they do? Is this key
a viepoint or method of viewing the facts or, better yet,
is this analytical key a material fact that illustrates how all the other facts
should be viewed?
B.____Technology and Technique
If you are using virtually any version of the Mac OS, you can use your
Mac's superior built-in speech abilities to review your document.
First, save your document as text in your word processing
program, re-open with SimpleText, then go to the top menu
and select "speak all." Listen to your document as the computer
voice speaks the text.
As you listen, are you bored?
Do you follow the chronology or logic of the author?
Is it torture to listen to your prose?
Victoria
(or Albert or Zarvox or Bruce or whichever of the
voices that you chose)
is trying to tell you something!
