Up Close

The MODERNARTIST'S patrons Jim Murphy and Jon Feinberg travel the country with these celebratory canvases, attending Elton's concerts and other special events, presenting the artworks to Elton for autographing.

Furs was signed by the members of E's band and presented to Elton as a birthday present by Davey Johnstone. Elton & David was given to Elton as a gift of appreciation by patron and super-fan Murphy in early 1999. Jon Feinberg, Bloom champion and insatiable autograph-collector, got E to sign Mop in Jacksonville, FL in October. Feinberg struck again with Black Turtle late in ’99. Our most prized piece to date is Rockinelton 1, which was signed by Elton last winter. A 30x40 acrylic on canvas, this piece is a must–see/must–have for the serious Elton afficianado. Finally, Up Close is due to be autographed this week, as Murphy heads to The Fleet center in Boston. We shall see....

....October 13th: and the word is in---Up Close was indeed autographed by The Man!! “Lovely On–The–Spot” managed this remarkable photograph of Elton and Murph doing the transaction! Great job, Jim!

Jocelle Cauvier's excellent website.

In order to paint his portraits of Elton, Eric will often surf the web in search of unusually eye-catching, thought-provoking photographs (when we're not using some of our own, that is!). When Eric found Jocelle's delightful site, he found some of the most inspiring and classic photographic portraits of Elton John we've yet to find anywhere! If you want to visit a site that truly presents E at his best, click on over to Jocelle's. Beautifully designed and a wonderful, heartfelt tribute!

Lynn's

A huge tip o' the hat to our good friend, and partner in crime–Lynn Sykes, who took this rather uncanny photo at a recent concert. Lynn has graciously allowed us to use this masterwork as a reference photo for our latest canvas, Piano Eyes, and we're very excited about it! Thanks for your budding talent Lynn, and keep up the great work!

As with any of our Celebrity Portraits which are autographed by the featured subject and sold, a major portion of the proceeds will be provided to the subject's charitable cause of choice. In the case of our Elton portraits, this will be his Worldwide AIDS Foundation.

MURPH
STRIKES
PIANO PIANO

Spring, 2000: Jim took to the road again––this time by mere automobile––and on the eve of April 8, in Amherst, MA (some college up there), managed yet another Elton signature for PIANO EYES, graciously given, and as always, graciously received. These photodocuments were made of the piece immediately after Eric's completion. The paint would still have been completely wet had it been done in oils, but these days Eric is working almost exclusively in inks and acrylics, not only for their unique aesthetic qualities, but because the fast-drying medium lets our mischevious artist contemplate the production until almost the last available minute, creating harrowing shipping deadlines for himself and the jet-setting patrons. Featured are two views; one a detail, hopefully displaying the uncanny reflection of Elton's Yamaha piano in his patented, tinted shades; and the other, a full–frame reproduction. Again, we are extremely enthused about this work, because it is Eric's interpretation of our friend Lynn's phenomenal photographic gem, which, incidentally, was snapped up by EAST END LIGHTS not long after it was made. This is often referred to as a triple play; Sykes to Bloom to Murphy!....

FEINBERG

COMING SOON: Arriving here shortly will be some important photographs featuring a very special lady, and her very special, brand new fine art aquisition; none other than a Bloom portrait of Elton, painted from an original Jon Feinberg concert photo, taken at one of the later of Jon's 160+ attendances of EJ performances. This photo was also referenced to paint ROCKINELTON 1, featured above. You'll soon find out that this young woman has just purchased ROCKINELTON 2, which had, that same week, been commissioned by Jon, for his own, private collection. What then happened was; that Jon took the piece to a concert in Florida to be autographed by Sir El. He in fact was given a gorgeous, quintessential Elton penning, which was witnessed first-hand by thousands of cheering fans. One of the faithful in attendance that night was our fair lady, who, upon seeing the canvas signed by her most admired troubadour, became enthralled with the idea of having the work for her very own. And although Jon had consigned the quite formidable work with an unquestionably sentimental fervor, fully intending to hold the piece for generations to come, parted with it without a second thought when it was learned just how sincere was our lady's desire, and just how generous she was willing to be in her endeavor to make the piece her own, for as we have mentioned on the site, when a Bloom original, signed by The Man, is purchased by dealer or private collector, a major portion of our proceeds go directly to Elton's AIDS Foundation, currently one of the world's most effective and essential charities. Each of us involved with MODERNARTIST is totally committed to utilizing whatever artistic and administrative abilities we possess to further the cause of this hugely successful force for the betterment of countless thousands of lives resting in the balance.

So, our hats off to Jon Feinberg's unselfishness and unyielding promotional ingenuity, and to our newest and brightest patron of the fine arts, a young woman whose name and face will appear on this page sometime in the near future; along with a photo of her new painting, and some pertinent info regarding Elton's burgeoning
AIDS Foundation.

ŹˇROCK ON!
