Tor Khudree

Distinctive characters : Body elongate, moderately compressed. Abdomen rounded. Head small, broadly pointed. Snout angularly rounded. Mouth inferior, arched. Eyes far forward, large, and not viable from below ventral surface. Lips fleshy, continous at angles of mouth. Pharyngeal teeth in 3 rows 5, 3, 2. Four barbels, a pair each of maxilary and rostral. Dorsal fin inserted above, pelvic fins, with 12-13 rays (eight or nine branched) and a strong, stout,, smooth spine. A scaly sheath present at base of dorsal fin. Anal fin with seven or eight rays (five branched). Caudal fin deeply forked. Scales large, with numerous parallel striae. Lateral line complete with 23-28 scales.

Distribution: Throughout India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Burma, Also Syria, Israel, most of Arabian peninsula south to Yemen & Africa.
