Fave Bands

Mansun

My favourite band of the moment, due to the fact that their singles, b sides and effervescent live performances are all fantastic. Their recent album, while patchy, contained flashes of genius. With Paul Draper having a superb voice (have you ever heard him singing badly a la Ian Brown?). Even though I didn't "get" TIEC until looong after its release...oops. Oh and the Stripper Vicar EP (with No One Knows Us) is one of the best EP's ever...EV*snip*

Best Song; Take It Easy Chicken
Best B Side; Flourella
Albums; marion

Currently lying low due to drug rehab, with only one single being so far released off the album. Sparkle was rumoured to be the next single, although that seems unlikely now (other suggested singles, in my opinion, would be All Of These Days and Is That So?). For me Jaime Harding's singing makes Marion's songs. It has a wonderful sarcastic self-mocking tone and things. I first noticed them via...erm..Shine compilations (sorry). Jaime has now apparently left the band...doh.

Best Song; What Are We Waiting For?
Albums;
Jocasta

Sadly no longer with us. But while they were around they were really rather good with their pop leanings offset by spiky guitars. I thank the Evening Sess for introducing me to Something To Say. The singer/songwriter T. Marcus Arnold is pursuing solo stuff (I think) and check out
this website.

Best Song; Go
Albums;

Other Bands

...that i like at the moment... Incidently ~ means that the album was a bit patchy, ^ means that there was a few very good songs, but loads of not so good ones.

Dead, Good Bands

Kenickie

Discography Lifespan; Catsuit City (1995) - Stay In The Sun (1998)
Best Song; People We Want
Best B Side; Can I Take U 2 The Cinema
Albums; They split because of; industry pressure. Though when they promoted Stay In The Sun on daytime TV (PUNK ROC!) they didn't look too happy and only the girls were promoting it (cynical marketing??). It didn't help that the 2nd album was a huge change in emphasis from the previous one.

3 Colours Red

Discography Lifespan; This Is My Hollywood (1996) - This Is My Time (1999). (9 singles)
Best Song; Nuclear Holiday
Best B Side; God Shaped Hole
Albums; They split because of; musical differences between the 2 songwriters.

Ultrasound

Discography Lifespan; Same Band/Floodlit World (1997) - Floodlit World (1999)
Best Song; Floodlit World
Albums; They split because of; musical differences.

Music Facts

- Mansun b side (to Negative) "When The Wind Blows" was originally called "Mansun's Only Other Love Song".
- Carrie's song "Tricara" (off "Fear Of Sound") written by Steve Ludwin, was originally played live by Leviation, shortly before they split to later form Dark Star, while Ludwin formed Carrie.
These facts are probably true, but as I've not asked any of the parties involved who knows...
