This page presents results of mp3 encoders quality comparison and encoding speed (benchmark). The tests are based on spectrum analysis of some sound samples and attempt to shows the bandwidth of the encoders.
The psycho acoustic evaluation of each encoder is not presented here.
Optimal settings are proposed at the end of this study.
Fraunhofer IIS, Lame, BladeEnc and Gogo are "pure" mp3 encoders.
Ogg Vorbis and MP+ are new encoders similar to mp3, but not compatible. You can find, in their respective homepages, plug-ins to play the files created with this codecs on standard players like Winamp, Sonique and XMMS.
The front-end (GUI) software use to encode the sound file is CDex (for Lame, BladeEnc and Gogo encoders) and AudioGrabber (for Fraunhofer IIS encoders).
