Hello-

You might have already heard the news, but I wanted to let you know just in case. ABC news reported tonight that DeForest Kelley died today. I wanted to let you know so that you could make the necessary updates to your web site. Your web site is a truly wonderful and touching tribute to Mr. Kelley.

Jonathan Leggett

I'm amember of a Star Trek club that is part of a college in MI, and we were wondering you had an address that we could use to send a card to Mr. Kelley's wife, we all met because of Star Trek, and it feels like part of the family has passed away. If you could help us out we would be grateful.

Joe LaPage (A.K.A. CMDR RaJa)

As a classic movie fan, I've seen DeForest Kelley in numerous Western films, but I'm also a big ST fan and certainly mourn his passing.

Brad Lang

Dear Mary,

All my sympathies,

Gary

I hope your life was good cause you took the edge off ours. We will miss you dearly good friend.

Roger Desjardins

Thanks for the tribute to Mr. Kelley.

Thanks for sharing your story on your web site. Now that "De" has passed on, will you provide an update?

Liza Colby

Greetings.

I join you in mourning this fine actor who left us yesterday, and wish to offer you this tribute picture that I made.

As they say on Vulcan, I grieve with thee.

De is sorely missed.

Pamela Smith

I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your site. One comment though. You might change the color of the font on the memorial page. It is almost impossible to read black on that background. Thanks for your hard work.

Sandy Barton

Hi I am one of the many who also loved De's work, and the Man he was.

Scott

Thank you for the lovely tribute website.

It was very touching.

John

Mary --

I know you are very upset by the news of De's passing. Just a quick not of condolence.

Jacqueline Moore

I just wanted to drop a note regarding your site dedicated to Spock and McCoy. I wish I had stumbled across it before. My wife and I are devoted Star Trek fans, and the characters seem more like family membersthan actors (a tribute to them). We all knew that the original cast couldn't last forever, but the death of DeForest Kelley is a bitter pill to swallow. He apparently lived a full life, and he touched many.

Thanks for a very nice site.

Edward S. Clay

. Mr Kelley will be sadly missed by so many people, I know that the message that you have had to add to his tribute sight must have saddend you a great deal. The world is just not going to be the same.

De Kelley was a beautiful light to the world...I am so thankful his memory will live on among so many of us; he was a truly unique and considerate human being who brought joy and peace to the hearts of many, and will always be one of my heroes.

J.D. Carlson

Dear Mrs. Kelley:

Your husband was a great actor and a fine gentleman. I've never had a mint julep, but I think I'll try one in his memory.

Thanks for the memories.

I was very saddened to hear of Mr. Kelley's passing. I am sure I am not alone when I say that growing up, the two role models I had when I considered becoming a physician were my family doctor and TV's Dr. McCoy.

Both had this wonderful mix of irascibility and compassion which I try to keep with me every day in my own life.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Maria L. Evans, M.D.

In losing DeForest Kelley,we have lost a little peace of ourselves. That's the way I felt when I read the announcement of his death on the front page of Mercury News this morning.

To the wife and many friends ofJackson DeForest Kelley, my humble condolences.

James D. Tejada

Mr. Kelley was truly one of a kind. He will be forever immortalized and remembered as "Bones" McCoy and as a wonderful human being. He will sorely missed.

Clint McMullen

De made millions of us smile through the years. We know he's beamed to a better part of the universe now and will miss him.

DeForest was someone who stood for something bigger than what he was. He will be deepely missed. I know he's looking down from the stars. My sympathies.

Brian Sherman

Like many people who watched Mr. Kelley the actor and wished they could have met and known the man, I regret not having had the chance to do so. I can only extend my sympathies but wish I could do more. Goddess bless both of you.

reginald lafontaine

As a teenager, I gathered hope from Star Trek's message of acceptance of the diversity of all people. No one expressed it better, on or off screen, than Deforest Kelley. We'll all miss him deeply.

K. DeLander

Dear Mrs. Kelley,

I know that there's really nothing anyone can say that can take away the pain of losing someone dear to you, so just let me say that my prayers are with you, and that I wish you all the best for the future. De will always be remembered fondly and with love by both his friends and his fans.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Harrison

I just heard. I was at Pasadena, he was the reason I went. He was too ill to come. He was a lovely man, a gentleman. He will be truly mourned. Truly missed.

THIS IS A SAD DAY FOR TREK FANS. I GREW UP WATCHING STAR TREK IN THE 60'S AND STILL ENJOY IT TODAY. NOTHING COULD HAVE PREPARED US (TREK FANS) FOR THE PASSING OF SUCH AN IMPORTANT PERSON IN OUR LIVES. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED AND AGAIN STAR TREK PASSES INTO A NEW GENERATION WITH OUT ONE OF THEIR BELOVED CREW.

PAM K.

I was saddened to hear about the death of De on the news.. Thank you foryour notice on your page.. Are you going to send a card? I would like to as well..

Maureen

Now that "Bones" has reached the "Final Frontier" I can hear him saying "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" God bless him, he will be missed.

Sandra Stuckey

I am so sad to hear about his passing...while a fan can never really know much about an actor, one could always tell from interviews and stories that De had class and a great sensitivity. I could well understand how an actor might be embittered and annoyed with the weight of the whole Star Trek phenomenon, but in interviews he always seemed to handle it with a sense of humor. A class act.

His warmth was a part of what has made Star Trek a special thing

for generations of fans. He will be missed by many, many, many people.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Carolyn Kelley and the rest of the family.

Bill Sweet

Your husband was a wonderful actor and a marvelous human being. These

qualities will ensure that his work lives on for many generations to

come. He will be terribly missed by us all.

It's with Great Sorrow that I leave this message. The passing of DeForrestKelley has left a hole in the lives of many of us. We will all go on, but there is a little bit of our youth which is gone forever. Mrs. Kelly, we mourn with you for your loss, and may God Bless you. Go swiftly into the night, good man, and may angels guide your path. RIP, DeForrest Kelly, andthanks for the memories.

Russell Doolittle

In 1986, I went to Tulane Law School. During that time, I watched Admiral McCoy and Lt. Commander Data stroll down the wide corridors of the Enterprise-D.

What I am trying to say is that DeForest Kelley has always been a happy part of my life, even in law school, and he will be sorely missed.

May God bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand. May His peace and grace rest upon you. May He comfort you and always cover you with His love.

Roz!

I have to say that as a original Star Trek fan, this series brought a lot of joy to me. It was sad to learn of the passing of one of the key character's in this series. He will be missed indeed. My condolances to the family and close friends.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of your husband. The Star Trek series and De's terrific character have had a profound effect on my life. So much so that I can't imagine what my life would have been without them.

How does one say goodbye to one of your childhood heros. De and Star Trek brought and still bring great pleasure to my life. De will always live in our memories. My deepest condolences and sympathies on your loss. He seemed the nicest man that one could hope to know. I wish I had had thehonor.

Ian Case, Victoria, BC

I was devastated to learn of the death of Deforrest Kelley, one of my favourite actors in the series, I loved his interaction with Spock, it seems a shame that we will not hear from him again.

With sympathy

Lorraine Ellard

Thank you for posting it! You guys are doing a great job of celebrating De's spirit. I am so touched that he was thinking of all of us fans up until the very end. What a wonderful man...

God bless and keep up the good work!

When I was a kid, all I wanted to do was meet my hero, DeForest Kelley. I'd watch Star Trek faithfully, just because Dr. McCoy was the best there was. The day that I finally met him I count among my best days. June 11th is one of my worst. My condolences to his wife and all around.

Joseph F. Berenato

I believe we have loss one of the truly rare examples of integrity and humanity. Without the humanity he instilled in Dr. McCoy, StarTrek would have been just another short-lived and unremembered show.

Shalom,

EEver since I was old enough to watch and understand star trek I was a McCoy fan. There are no words that can discribe the emotions and the pain it has brought me to find out the one and only McCoy has passed away. My prayers go out to his wife. We will miss you, nor will we ever forget who and what you really were.

Korinna Wuestefeld,

DeForest has influenced many lifes with his wonderful performance of Dr.McCoy. A part of my childhood has gone with him but his representation of humanity and care will never die and always be in our hearts and minds. And the men behind the actor was as likable as anyone can be. All my sympathies.

He will be deeply missed

I was smashed when some friends of mine told me De Forest was gone. I am Italian, and in Italy Star Trek is not as famous as it is in the USA. It was first aired here in 1979. Ever since, (I was 5 yr old then) I adored De Forest's style. He gave me strenght when I felt depressed. I love his charme, his strenght, his sarcasm, I just love the spark he brought into the series. When I was told the horrible news, I put a De Forest's picture on my desk, and, next to it, I put a white flower, in loving memory.

Thanks, De Forest, for your existance!!

Chiara Cresciani

I'll always remember how DeForest Kelley, in his role as Dr. McCoy on Star Trek, made me feel glad to be a human being, alive and part of this world. Thanks.

Scott A. Steiner

Words cannot express the sorrow when I found out about the death of De Kelley late Friday night - one day after my 45th birthday. He exemplified everything positive that a person could and should be and we must never let his light burn out. My condolences to you Mrs. Kelley and God speed in your own recovery. And may God bless De and all of us. With much sincere love -

While I never knew DeForest Kelley personally, the humanity and humor that sparkled in his work enlivened my imagination and enriched my life. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. In dreams and tales, he lives on...

Cathy Butterfield

What can I say about this wonderful human being that many have not already said. He will be greatly missed by many people and non less than his wife of so many years. Through his role as Dr. McCoy in the original Star Trek I have made friends people around the world. I would like to say thank you for the joy you have brought so many people. Goodbye and thank you.

Maureen Grinter. Sydney, Australia.

DeForest brought so much of himself to the characters he played, especially Dr. McCoy. I have always wanted to meet him because he has had such an impact on my life, but unfortunately that will never happen on this earth. He was a modest, kind, warm, and caring individual who leaves this world a better place. My condolences to his family. I know he will be missed. I'm sure he will look down from heaven and smile upon all those whose lives he touched.

Lisa Gordon

Mrs. Kelly,

I cannot express the extent of my grief over your husband's passing. Star Trek and especially Dr. Leonard McCoy helped to shape the essence of who I am today. The night sky shines a little brighter, but the world has dimmed for all of us who remain behind. All of his fans dreaded to hear the words " "He's dead, Jim" spoken about him, not by him. Best wishes to you for your own recovery.

Judy Sadowski

A great advantage of being a cultural icon is that death is not final. As long as fans of 'Trek' and Mr. Kelley live, so will this wonderful actor. I will celebrate his life everytime his image graces my television. Godspeed with your recovery, Mrs. Kelley

In a persons' life, it is the dreams that help him to persevere through the hard times. I never had the chance to meet De at a convention, but he was never-the-less , through the character of Dr, McCoy, one of a very small group of people who helped to keep my boat afloat. I wish I could have known the man behind the dream, but I feel I've been fortunate just to glimpse this part of him. He will be missed, never forgotten by me, and hopefully passed on. Godspeed to him and our love to you--

robert entsminger

Dear Mrs. Kelley,

I'm reminded of the words your husband spoke while portraying Dr. McCoy on the very first episode of STAR TREK: the Next Generation. He was Admiral McCoy talking about the new Starship Enterprise with Mr. Data.

"Just remember...treat her like a lady and she'll always bring you home."

He's just been brought home.

With all our love,

Charles and Julia Sonney, Erie, Pennsylvania

Deforest Kelley was a truly gifted actor. When he portrayed "Bones" McCoy you could see the compassion in his eyes and hear it in his voice. When he smiled he lit up the Star Trek Universe, and our hearts. My deepest sympathies, Mrs. Kelley.

Sincerely,

Gina Zwerling

Dear Mrs. Kelley,

DeForest was never far from my thoughts for the past 33 years. And now, your loss will be in my thoughts and prayers forever. God bless you, dear lady.

Laurie I. from Illinois

In "Star Trek" IV: The Undiscovered Country, Chang asked of Bones' medical status, McCoy replies: "Aside from a touch of arthritis, I'd say pretty good." My condolences to Mrs. Kelley. DeForrest will be greatly missed, however thanks to videotape and VCRs he will never leave us.

Rest in peace

To the family and friends of DeForest, may I pass on my most heart felt sympathy for his passing. As Bones McCoy, he so beautifully portrayed the human foibles that make us who we are as people. I would like to think that this humanity will live to the 23rd century and beyond.

To his widow Carolyn, thank you for being beside this man who has given so much to so many for so long.

Well, the world is a lonelier place without DeForest Kelley. It really is like the passing of an old and dear friend or a family member. But as I grew older, I came to appreciate the friendship between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy and how the actors made these friendships seem so real.

To Mrs. Carolyn Kelley

My deepest sympathies in this Your hour of grief. I am not old enough to have seen Star Trek in its first run, but I was raised on it from my very young years. I can honestly say that DeForrest Kelley was one who touched me the deepest out of all the original trek cast. It is because of him that I have decided to go into the medical field. My heart is with you and your family in the hour of grief, thank you for sharing him with us for all these years.

Even in death, De's humanity allows me to say with great confidence that he truly "had the last word" as he so eloquently stated in the end of Journey to Babel. We will grieve long for him as he was an inspiration to us all. Thank you for sharing him for all these years.

We grew up with the Original Star Trek. We have enjoyed The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, the original crew will always have a special place in our heart. And the original crew will always be remembered as the beginning of a big tale that still goes on. Especially the one by the name of Dr. McCoy. Ms. Kelley:

I would like to express my sympathy in the passing of your husband who was, to me, an very "human" icon. Star Trek (both the original and "Next Generation") represented what society should be and CAN be. Ideals such as those contained in each and every Star Trek show will never be lost, as long as they are held and treasured in the minds and hearts of "Trekkies" everywhere.

Blessings to you,

I will miss you De Kelley, you were an important part of my teen years, and there could never be another Dr. McCoy. May God bless you and keep you forever. Donna Pride

Dear Mrs. Kelley,

I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy at the news of your dear husband's passing. I have enjoyed his acting for years, and was so glad to hear he had such a wonderful, stable marriage -- 55 years, that's wonderful! What a blessing! May God richly bless you, so that the empty space left by his passing may soon be filled with all the wonderful memories of this dear man. May you soon recover from your own painful trials, and know that the prayers and love of your husband's fans are also with you. May we all meet in a better place than this!

God bless you and keep you, is the wish of

I felt like a part of my childhood died when told that Deforrest Kelley had passed away. My thoughts go out to his wife and family and also to his fellow Star Trek cast members. He will be missed.

As someone whose idealism and dedication to serving others was nurtured by Dr. McCoy, I can only echo the sentiments of Pat Meier, who quoted McCoy's observation about Spock after his "death" at the end of Star Trek II. And I do so with the belief that DeForest Kelley and Dr. McCoy will be remembered forever.

My condolences and best wishes to his family and friends.

Dear Mrs. Kelley,

Please accept my most sincere sympathies on the loss of your husband. I've been a "Trek" fan since I was wee and he has been a part of that influence for me for many years now.

Although I never had a chance to meet him, all the descriptions of him as a loving and gracious man seemed to me to be the complete and absolute truth. I can only hope that your memories and the fans' devotion will help you through this rough time.

He will be sorely missed by us. Please take care and know that the world shares some small bit of what you feel.

Warmest regards,

Christine Craig Gilman

It's hard to know what to say when someone dies... DeForest and Dr. McCoy will live on forever in the minds and hearts of many generations of Star Trek fans. Thanks for the memories!

Like many other fans, Dr. McCoy was (is) my favorite Star Trek character. DeForest Kelley was a gifted actor who made whomever he protrayed very believable. Since McCoy was not featured often enough,my own Star Trek novel revolves around the good doctor. Mr. Kelley will be missed by all of us.

fans.

He will be missed....

I would like to extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to Carolyn, family and friends on the recent loss of DeForest. He was indeed a very special human being who touched many lives in different ways. I see that some people chose to enter the medical field because of his influence, I too was influenced but in a different direction. Mr. Kelley gave advice to aspiring actors to become involved in their local community theatres, while I am a writer, not an actor I still took this advice to heart. And I am pleased to say that I am now a Production Assistant with an independent film company.

Here is a thought that has brought a smile to my lips, and uplifted my heart and that is: now Mr. Kelley is not only with the Creator of All Things, but with the creator Gene as well. and together they can now

"Boldly go where no Soul has gone before".

Sincerely, Carole J. Lindberry

Dear Caroline,

I have been a great fan of DeForest Kelly for a long time, since the original Star Trek series from the sixties. I am now 49 years old. He had as doctor on the enterprice a special place in my heart.
