Our History

Ninjo Akitas was originally known as Nishi Taiyo Akitas formed in 1979 by Bruce and Kathy Mandell when they purchased their first Akita, Kibo Kikuye-Go. We came on the scene in 1982 when we welcomed a puppy out of Kibo's first litter sired by CH. Golden Sun Taki Bi No Taiyo into our family. Our very first Akita was Am.Mex Ch. Nishi Taiyo Joto Fujin, ROM. Joto taught us everything about breeding and owning a show dog. With her we learned all about the care and training of the Akita. She epitomized all that is Akita, from the spiciness of the Japanese type Akita to the size and beauty of the American Akita. She had it all. After Joto we purchased her half brother, CH. Ever Glo Kobe No Matagi, who was nationally ranked two years in a row with limited local showing. In 1992 we purchased CH. Daitan-Ni Just Do It, a "Kobe" granddaughter. When we bred "Nike" we decided to adopt our own kennel name as we no longer co-owned with the Mandells. Since our first breeding with "Nike" to CH. Ninjitsu's Instant Respect we now have an additional two home grown champions with another looming on the horizon.
