--------------FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS --------------
Q: What Poland is like these days?
A: It has been 10 years since the
collapse of the Soviet Block and the beginning of new era. Yet, Poland
still
is in the period of transition. Transition
has brought many changes at macro level which affect individual lives in
very complex ways. Created by new opportunities is prosperity or at least
prospects for young well-educated people; but this optimistic tendency
is counterbalanced by major social conflicts affecting these groups for
whom reforms create more stress than immediate payoffs. You will see the
faces of new modernized Poland in Warsaw’s skyline while Pultusk will show
a mixture of new developments and of traditional countryside life.

Q: What is the typical weather for July like?
A: Climate in Poland is as much temperate as weather is unpredictable. Middle of July should give us the warmest days, with temperatures around 25 -30 centigrade and sunshine. But unfortunately we may equally have drizzle and cold days with temperature below 20 centigrade. So, here is the warning: be prepared for warm and cold, sunshine and rain.

Q: Is the Congress held in Warsaw?
A: No, the congress is held in Pultusk,

Situated next to the Narew river and
near primaeval forest (Puszcza Biala). Pultusk is a quiet, serene, scenic
and historical. Even Napoleon Bonaparte choose this city after victory
in 1806. There are also folcloric and strong educational traditions. Its
Renaissance old town, including: City Hall, Market Square and Polonia Castle
(earlier Bishops’ Castle) are tourist attractions.
Q: Why the Congress is held in this little town, rather than in Warsaw, the capital?
While Warsaw offers metropolitan hustle and pollution, the time at river banks and canals in Pultusk seems eternal and space is transparent. But the really decisive factor for choosing Pultusk has been its School of Humanities, one of many private institutions of higher education brought by the transition, but also one of most successful in the country. With its new campus the School of Humanities offers us excellent conference facilities and student dormitories for a large section of the congress participants. Pultusk is an excellent place for spending five days in a collegial, intellectual and social way!
