Remembering

I remember you in springtime, as childhood memories come to mind.
Gleeful hunt for Easter eggs, me holding little brother's hand.
Springtime leaves bring plans of summer tree house building,
The cracking of a baseball bat, were you the home run king?

I remember you in summer, while being pulled behind a boat,
Waving to bikini blonde, she’s just your type, you know.
Laughing in the water, drinking ice cold beer,
Planning our next fishing trip and lies we know we'll tell.

I remember you in autumn, leaves crunching underfoot.
Talking of past summer loves and plans for those to come,
Watching days grow shorter, feeling the crispness in the air,
Chopping wood for wintertime and laughing the whole time.

I remember you in winter, when the northern wind blows cold.
Cold as the heart that took your life, and I think of you alone,
And I wonder and I contenplate why such as fate was yours.
I remember you most every day and miss you still, you know.
