Here is where I take the various lies I have run across, put them through
the shredder called logic, and see what comes out.
This page just earned an award. I am so happy! Anyway, here it
is.
Legalism
Religion can be easily twisted. There are many people who, without
even trying to have turned Christianity into a tool for controlling people.
They do this by laying down rules of their own and broadcasting them as the
only way. They make a new law and worship it instead of the real
Law-giver.
Here's a poem I just wrote concerning legalism:
Rape-Child of Religion
You bastard child of Religion and Pride,
claiming to know what's on my inside.
The image, appearance and keeping the pose
Can't see past the surface, so far you rose.
Our standard: "Truth as shown in the Word."
We will take an idea, and let it be heard
In your courts it's, "Guilty until proven Traditional."
The love you give out is strictly conditional.
Forget about God and worship the past.
Reviving what's dead, try to make it last.
You exalt Law as God and then you pervert it,
Weighing our backs down with ten ton burdens.
You push away seekers and scorn them as sinners.
All the time your veneer's getting thinner and thinner.
Demanding that all become your little clones,
"He's not one of God's if not one of our own."
Insisting the Truth is only what you say,
Ignoring God's Spirit if he gets in the way.
The Truth won't get through, you armor's too thick.
But you're not even listening. I may as well quit.
That's about my opinion of the whole topic. I'm tired of legalists
and their made up rules. I'm tired of being told I'm evil for being
myself, being told I'm deceived because I think for myself and being told
I'm rebellious because I refuse to swallow whatever idiocy they choose to
feed me. The Bible never declared rock music evil, it never said the
KJV is the only valid translation, so where do these things come from?
The legalists, they make it up and then try to force their worthless rules
on us. Don't get me wrong, I love God's law. I believe it was
made for our good. When I break it, I see the consequences.
Because I love His law so much, I all the more hate the perversions of it
that legalism brings.By the way, if you want to see more of my poetry,
it's here at Ink Drops.
Key: -
Shredded. My direct reply to one of their arguments. It
generally has their essay and my comments intermixed. - E-mail. An e-mail exchange with
one of Christian rock's critics. These exchanges are posted unedited
(not counting spacing changes necessary for the format), with their e-mails
and my replies. - Parody. Here,
I take one of their arguments and parody it to show how ridiculous it is.
Since these are parodies I do not necessarily believe what I am saying, I am
just illustrating their foolishness.
My Opponents What I think of the people I reply to on
this page. Updated 2-5-99
Lies about rock music
Rock music is often the target of angry legalists. They seem to
confuse what they don't like with what is evil. Anyway, here I reply
on this particular topic.
Let's Talk Sense My reply to the most common
arguments I see leveled against rock music. A Golden Calf? Christian rock has often been accused
of being idolatrous. This is an evaluation of these claims. You
might be surprised what I have to say. Could I Be Wrong? A consideration of some points where I
honestly have to admit, Christian rock does fall through. I don't care what
side of the argument you're on, please read this. Updated 9-17-99 I Challenge You To Not Laugh A parody of Terry Watkins'
prideful and uncaring challenge to those who disagree with him. 7-5-99 "It Doesn't Say Jesus!" Why Christian rock doesn't have
to say Jesus every other word. As an example, I include my (officially
endorsed) explanation of Five Iron Frenzy's song "Third World Think Tank." Updated 5-29-2001
My
Point by Point Rebuttal. This is the first one of these I
wrote. I was actually re-typing everything, so I only clipped things I
had specific problems with.
Rebutting the
Rebuttals by Matthew Bass. Here Matt replies to the various
rebuttals he recieved for his first essay.
DC Talk - Welcome to
the Freak Show by Jeff Godwin. This "concert review" and outright
attack on dc Talk is chock full of half-truths and word-twisting. Godwin's
leaps of illogic could outdo Superman: "Able to leap long logical gaps in a
single sentance."
Stop Freakin' Out! by Megan Lenz. Megan's
reply effectively unmasks the many short-comings of Godwin's essay. By
the way, this is the first apologetics essay on this site by another
author. Hopefully, this will start a trend. 8-27-99.
Marrs Hot Air, Part I Here I
show the horrible twists of illogic Marrs is forced to resort to.
Because of the length of this article and the restrictions on Tripod's
upload system, I've had to split it into two parts. 5-20-99
Lies and
the Truth An e-mail exchange with Dial-the-Truth About this tract.
The Invasion
Begins by John Beardsley. A review of a Newsboys concert, exposing
the "evils" of such an event.
Spaced
Out My reply isn't in the usual format because John does not wish any of
his articles to be re-posted. (A good way to keep others from
replying.) Instead, my reply is written by paragraph number, you'll
have to juggle between the two to fully understand it.
My Favorite Enemy An exchange with the most open-minded and reasonable of my opponents on this issue. Also, don't miss my parable "The Evil Tomato." 3-8-2004
Mind's Eye -
Critiqued by John Beardsley. John claims that "Mind's Eye" by dc
Talk is actually New Age trash.
Freaks by John
Beardsley. Here John rips apart dc Talk's "Jesus Freak." He has
no respect for the author's original intent. This article is shallow
and clearly biased.
God's Word Vs. John Beardsley After reading his
"scriptural" condemnation of Christian rock, I took some of his own verses
and showed how they prove him wrong. 1-4-99
Why I Knock
"Christian" Rock by John Beardsley. John's analysis of several
e-mails he has recieved from people he disagrees with. Oddly enough,
he never gets around to answering the question posed in the title.
Why Do You "Knock Christian Rock"? Better
yet, why does John treat people who disagree with him like this? I
think that's the one he'll really have to answer for. 1-30-99
Partial Shreddings I didn't feel like
replying to these whole articles yet, but these points were so obvious that
I couldn't let them slip. I may eventually reply to these articles in
whole, but until then, this will be here. 1-11-99
Become a Crony! Join the ranks of Zaklog the
Great's (that's me) cronies. If you are wondering where the heck this
came from, the explanation is here.
What's Christian Rock Saying? Here, I look at
the lyrics to a few Christian rock songs that its critics cannot reasonably
object to. Despite repeated claims that the lyrics to Christian Rock
are blasphemous, they have yet to prove anything like that. Updated 5-20-99
Lies About Bible Translation
Bible Correctors Lose
Voice by G. A. Riplinger. Riplinger claims that the fact that
these translators lost their voice is God's judgement on them and their
work.
Speaking Out Taking a careful look at the
implications of these claims.
The Message
Author Unknown. Here he tries (enphasis on "tries") to prove Eugene
Peterson's translation is invalid.
Questions for the KJV
Critics by James L. Melton. He poses a few questions that I guess
he thinks I'd find uncomfortable.
Answers for the KJV Onlyists Although Dial-the-Truth said it
couldn't be done, I did it. I answered his questions honestly in
defense of the modern translations. 1-23-99
Miscellaneous Lies
Is a Sense of Humor
a Needful Thing? Author Unknown. Were you aware that laughing is
wordly and evil? At least that's what this guy is claiming.
