APRIL: A TRUE ANGEL

(This page is dedicated to April Matthews)

(A picture of April)

April was a beautiful twenty-five-year-old young lady. She was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer in 1999. She had tumors in both lungs and the cancer pretty much took over her entire body. She went through lots of chemotherapy, some of it experimental. She lost her hair and the chemotherapy made her very ill. She fought right up until the end. I have never seen such a fight, such a strong fight to hang on to life. Even though her little body was rittled with cancer and her every move brought terrible pain, she fought on until she could fight no longer. On Monday, February 21st, 2000, April lost her battle. She died peacefully. She is no longer in pain and no longer suffers. She is with the Father. Even though I know, Biblically that human beings do not become angels upon their death, I believe that April was one of those rare people whom God uses to do His will and to show people what true courage is. Now don't get me wrong, I DO NOT believe that God afflicated April with this horrible disease. Cancer is a disease of the world. Satan's realm. So I believe it is Satan who brings about disease and affliction. But God can and does use people's situations to teach His children. I know He certainly used April to show us true courage and strength.

April's last wish was to meet Reba. Unfortunately for April, she didn't get to meet Reba. Reba DID send her an autographed photograph. I know that if it was at all possible for Reba to meet April, Reba would have done it. Reba's schedule was very full and she is, after all, only human. She made a wonderful gesture to April, by sending her an autographed photo. Thank you Reba, for this. You are the greatest!

I can't explain why April and her fight have touched me so deeply. The only thing I can say is that I really believe that God is moved me to do everything in my power to make April's dream come true. I never met April in person or on-line. I only know of April through her dear friend, Pat. I never heard April's voice or looked upon her but I believe I did know her heart. I will dearly miss her. I will never ever forget the affect she had on my life and lessons she's taught me. Thank you April. I only wish I could have told you in person how much you've meant to me. And that I love you, April, with all of my heart. I know that God brought us together in a very spiritual way. May we someday meet in heaven.

(A picture of Pat)

Pat has kept me up to date throughout April's fight. She and I have become good friends through April. Thank you April, for bringing a good friend like Pat, into my life.

I think God played a hand in bringing April and I together. No, think, is much to weak of a word, I KNOW that God brought us together. I have never been so driven by someone or something as I was for April. The only thing I can say is that the Holy Spirit really moved me to be involved in April's situation and to do all I could to help make her dream come true.

I know, too, that April is an Angel on earth. I know that God is using April's situation to teach us about how fragile our life here on earth is and about true courage. April blessed many people here on earth and for that she will be blessed in Heaven. Her treasure is great in heaven. Each time we look up in the sky and see the stars, we will think of April. Each time we see a new flower blooming or the sunrise or sunset we will remember April. Her spirit will live on in God's creations forever. Whenever I feel like giving up I will think of April and how she refused to give up until she had nothing left to fight with. April you've have taught me that there is no battle too great if only you have courage and the LOVE of the Lord on your side.

God gives each of us a beautiful song. To some, like Reba, He has literally given a beautiful vocal voice. But to others, like April, He gave a most precious gift. The gift of touching people's hearts in a very special way, the gift of compassion, love, and understanding, and the gift of courage and strength. God has given each of us a gift and it up to us to find that gift and share it with others.God wants us each to sing the song that He has given us. My gift is the that of being able to put my thoughts effectively in writing, so through the internet I share that gift with you and with April.

APRIL'S LESSONS

1)The Love of the Lord gives us strength and courage!

2)Never ever give up!

3)Share your God given gifts, you never know when it will be too late to do it!

May God Bless you, April! You are truly an Angel on Earth!

The song that you hear is called "Fly". Celine Dion recorded this song on her "Falling Into You" album.Below are the lyrics. Celine dedicated this song to her niece, who died in her arms, of Cystic Fibrosis. I dedicate this song to April. I think this song fits April perfectly!

Fly, fly little wing
Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven's love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again

Fly, fly precious one
Your endless journey has begun
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace forevermore
But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
Until we meet

Fly, fly do not fear
Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don't wait for me
Above the universe you'll climb
On beyond the hands of time
The moon will rise, the sun will set
But I won't forget

Fly, fly little wing
Fly where only angels sing
Fly away, the time is right
Go now, find the light
