Friday & Saturday, May 13-14, 2004 at the Tarboro High School Track. Gather 10-20 friends, family or co-workers; dig out that pop-up tent and sleeping bag; and get ready to walk, raise money and HAVE FUN all for the fight against cancer!

Relay for Life is sponsored locally by the Edgecombe County Unit of the American Cancer Society. This unique, relay-style fund raiser involves teams of individuals representing corporations, clubs, neighborhoods, families and cancer patients who participate to focus on fun, fitness and the positive side of cancer...survivorship

EDGECOMBE RELAY INFORMATION

R egistration

Teams should be made up of 10-20 people who will take turns circling the track.

Individuals who are not part of a team will gladly be matched with one.

Team members may walk/run as long as they wish, but it is encouraged that they rotate in half hour increments.

Each team should have representation on the track at all times.

Be creative when forming teams! Choose a team theme and use it in any way possible. Prizes will be awarded to the teams that exhibit the most creativity with their theme and tent decorating.

R egistration F ees

$10.00 per person

Registration fees may be paid by a sponsoring business or organization secured by the team or fees can be paid by each individual team member.

All participants are encouraged to raise as much money as possible beyond the registration fee.The goal is a minimum of $100 per person. Incentive prizes begin at the $175 level.

S pecial E vents

A number of special events will be scheduled throughout the 24-hour period. Food, games, and entertainment will be available to participants and spectators.
The event will take place at the Tarboro High School Track on Friday & Saturday, May 13-14, 2004, beginning at 12:00 p.m. with campsite set up. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:00 p.m. There will be lots of special events going on during our 24-hours of Relay! You don't want to miss it!

H OW I T A LL B EGAN

The Relay for Life began in 1985 when Dr. Gordon Klatt, a Tacoma, Washington, surgeon and an American Cancer Society Volunteer, ran and walked on a local track for 24 hours, traveling 81 miles. He raised $27,000 for the Society.
From that experience, Dr. Klatt put together a relay event that raises more than $2 million each year to fight cancer.
