Here we are at the 'official' entrance to China Town (though ofcourse there are many ways into the area from different parts of San Francisco). The appeal of this little bit of Asia within the city is that it really is like walking into another country. Most of the people, despite tourists adding to the numbers are chinese people just living their day to day lives.
The shops are varied and colourful as you can see from the photos of Andrew and Sam, and the prices, very cheap. Strings of freshwater pearls started at 99cents.I bought an ornate chess set for $40 and a Lovely Mah Jong set for $25.
We had a meal at a restaurant there, which was a bit disappointing, but that's probably because we were unsure what to order. Also touching on this area are Japan Town and Little Italy and from there it's a fairly short walk down to Fisherman's Wharf
Sam was quite fascinated by the San Francisco fire engines as he's a big fan of fire engines in general.
