Ray Romano
Ray Romano always could make his friends laugh, but
he never gave standup comedy any serious thought until one fateful open mike night when he
took to the stage for the first time in an attempt to impress his date.
Romano had wanted to be an actor, and, by age 16, was
involved in church plays and humorous skits for friends at small functions. He switched
directions in 1984 and decided to give comedy his full attention, eventually winning first
prize in a major competition in his native New York. Following that success, Romano was
featured on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and later on The Tonight Show
Starring Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS.
Romano's television credits include HBO's Comedy Half
Hour:Ray Romano, The 15th Annual Young Comedians Special, Late Night with Conan O'Brien,
Dr. Katz:Professional Therapist, E! Stand Up Sit Down Comedy, MTV Half Hour Comedy Hour,
An Evening at the Improv and ShowTime Comedy Club Network.
He recently completed a 22-city standup comedy tour and is
working on a book based on his comedy for fall publication.
He performed at the White House Correspondents Dinner in
April.
Romano is married and has four children. His birthday is
December 21st.
