For Immediate Release: December 27, 2000

The New Orleans Saints announced the slate of regular season and preseason opponents for the club's 2001 NFL schedule, the 35th season in the Saints' history.

The 2000 NFC West champions will play home-and-home (8 games) with each of the other teams in the NFC West (Atlanta, Carolina, St. Louis and San Francisco).

New Orleans will take on four other teams from the NFC based on the 2000 final NFL standings. The Saints will host the NFC Central champions (Minnesota) and the 3rd-place team from the NFC East (Washington). New Orleans will go on the road to play the NFC East champion New York Giants and the 2nd-place NFC Central team (Tampa Bay).

The Saints will also play four predetermined (by rotation) interconference opponents from the AFC East (Indianapolis and the New York Jets at home & New England and Buffalo on the road).

The Saints will begin the 2001 preseason on Saturday, August 11 when they travel to San Antonio to play Minnesota in the Alamodome. The following week (August 16-20; date to be determined), the Saints will host Dallas in the Superdome. On Friday, August 24, the Saints will play Indianapolis in the Superdome. The final preseason game will be the next Saturday (September 1), when the Saints travel to Seattle.

Dates and times for the 2001 Saints' regular season schedule will be set by the National Football League in March.
