Cid Highwind

Cid is another of my favorite characters, just because he has a cool personality. He may be tough talking (he swears even more than Barret!) but he has a good heart inside. He is deadly with his lances, and has some cool limit breaks. The limit breaks are pretty strait-forward, dealing massive damage to the enemy.

Cid was to be the first man in space, if not for Shinra's petty greed. On the day of the launch, Cid was all psyched up. He was ready, his ship was ready, and his team was ready. Well, mostly. One member of his technicians still had doubts about the life support systems. She was still in the engine room when it was time to launch, and was willing to sacrifice herself so that Cid could be the first man in space. Cid's consience overtook him, and aborted the launch.

The party finds Cid in Rocket town. Not much has changed. The massive rocket still looms over the city, due to Shinra's refusal to restart the space program due to financial constraints. The technician has become his servant out of gratitude and remorse, and Cid still resents the fact that he had to abort his launch for her. When the party arrives, Shinra appears and confronts Cid in front of his house. The head of the Space Program tells Cid that it "might" restart, but that they need his airplane, the Tiny Bronco,in order to catch Sephiroth. Cid is stunned and upset, because Shinra has already taken his airship the Highwind, and he does not want to lose the Tiny Bronco. Meanwhile, the party sneaks into the backyard in order to steal the airplane. The head of the Space department confronts them, and demands the plane. He is defeated by the party, and they steal the Tiny Bronco. On the way out, however, Shinra soldiers fire at them, and Cid leaps aboard. The plane crashes, and can only be used as a cheap boat, but the party gains something much greater: Cid Highwind!
