Wizards’ Notes

Wizards’ goalie and last year’s WPHL rookie of the year, Kory Cooper has been sidelined indefinitely with a groin pull. The Wizards report Cooper is on the 14-day disabled list. However, Cooper himself has report that the injury is more severe than reported, and could be out longer than the team has reported. Cooper was seen on crutches at the Wizards’ season opener at the Bell County Expo Center.

Waco acquired goalie Todd Laurin from the Ft. Worth Brahmas for future considerations. Laurin was left out as the Brahmas’ 3rd goalie. The Brahmas also did not have a visa left for Laurin. The acquisition for the Wizards paid off, as Laurin stopped 41 of 42 Stampede shots en route to a 2-1 victory against Central Texas to start the season. Laurin was also named 1st star of the game.

Wizards’ defenseman Craig Nelson left the ice with an injury during the season opener against the Stampede. It was initially reported that Nelson had a broken collar bone.

Waco acquired defenseman Jake Deadmarsh from the Shreveport Mudbugs prior to the season opener. Deadmarsh did not play for Waco in the opener. Deadmarsh was a part of the Mudbugs’ WPHL championship team last season. Jake is the brother of Colorado Avalanche forward Adam Deadmarsh.
