It is, however, pointed out that the name Mirza Asadullah Beg Khan is incorrect. Ghalib's father's name, undoubtedly, was Beg but this in no way transitioned over to the poet himself. His true name was Mirza Asad Ullah Khan, Takhallus "Ghalib" and Alqaab "Najm-ud-Daula", "Dabeer-ul-Mulk" and "Nizam-e-Jang" given to him by Bahadur Shah Zafar, the then supposed ruler.

Hazaron khwahishen aisi ki har khwahish pe dum nikle,
Bahot nikle mere armaan, lekin phir bhi kam nikle.

Hui muddat ki Ghalib mar gaya par yaad aata hai,
Woh har ek baat pe kehna ke yoon hota to kya hota.

Would it have ended well? What if it had been so?

Hue mar ke ham to ruswa, hue kyoon na gharq-e-dariya,
Na Koi janaza uthta, na kahin mazaar hota.
