Kaohsiung, the second largest city in Taiwan, is located on the lower southwestern coast of Taiwan.

Kaohsiung (click here for website) is a major center for manufacturing, refining, and transportation. It is the
major port through which most of Taiwan's oil is imported, which accounts for the large amount of heavy industry there.

Over a long break in September 1970 three Dawg Flighters flew down-island via China Airlines to the southwestern seaport city
of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Trip members included Steve "PB" Swallom (KY), Jim "Fitz" Fitzgerald (CA), Bill Coffey (NYC).

Four photos taken in Yancheng District, Kaohsiung City by Nelson "Shaky" Carpenter during a trip down-island by train and bus over a long break in Nov. 1970. "Shaky" traveled through Kaohsiung on his way south to see the Oluanpi ("Elaunbi") Lighthouse (click here for website) located on the southernmost tip of Taiwan on Cape Oluanpi (Eluanbi) (ref. maps above).

1972 Dawg Flight Trip to the Pescadore Islands, Taiwan

All the Dawg Flighters and guests on the trip flew from Taipei International Airport via
Taiwan's China Air Lines to Makung on Penghu Island in the Pescadores over a long break.

Taiwan's Pescadore Islands (click here for website), also known as the Penghu Islands, are an archipelago of 64 islands in the Taiwan Strait about 25 to 30 miles west of
Taiwan's southwest coast. The islands are named after its biggest island, Penghu, which is where the capital Makung is located. Makung is about 40 minutes from Taipei by air.
