Story Behind Ode To A Slow Night

I was working Accident Investigation (ACCI) with my partner Les Reidy on graveyard shift. One of the things we had to do in the whole Traffic Division was to submit a daily activity sheet, detailing everything we had done that shift. Well this particular night was absolutely dead quiet so we didn't do much that night. Les had come to work with a minor case of blood poisoning which got progressively worse throughout the shift. We finally went into the emergency ward and had him fixed up and sent home. While he was undergoing repairs, I did up our nightly duty sheet and just for fun, did it up with this rhyme. Now this is an official police document and after submitting it I got a little worried that it might cause some problems. Turns out, it didn't and in fact I got compliments from my Sergeant and Inspector, and looking back on it now I guess this launched my career as the departmental poet.
