Missing Witness
.

Sergeant Axel Hovbrender, and Colin Renkema,

Were questioning a witness, who knew more than she saw.

She claimed to know the stabber, in a recent homicide,

So they took her down to 312 Main, to have a talk inside.
.

Of her story they were skeptical, but they listened to the tale,

She said he had confessed to her, and left her with some mail.

A signed confession from the perp, of what he'd done and who,

But before she turned it over, was there something they could do.
.

It seems this helpful witness, had just recently herself,

Done another Skid Road stabbing, with a knife up on her shelf.

So maybe if they wanted, she would like to do a deal,

If they mentioned to Crown Counsel, she would agree to squeal.
.

Major Crimes were in the office, so they went to ask around,

To check the lady's story, see if the suspect went to ground.

The Detectives were excited, the story sounded great,

They went back in the office, to seal the suspect's fate.
.

When they opened up the door, where the witness was alone,

There was just an empty office, the lady was quite gone.

They searched the building, high and low, where could she really be,

She had plain and simply vanished, she was nowhere they could see.
.

They found her hiding at her home, on just the next fine day,

The hardest thing they had to do, was figure what to say.

To keep the story hidden, so no poems could be complete,

Too bad, it seems, I found out, here's the tale of your defeat.
