~THIS TUESDAY, 6:30 pm, you can pass your songs by taping at
SECTIONALS.
~Skyline is looking for someone interested in PURCHASING OUR OLD
RISERS. We will sell them for $2,000 for the entire group, or $200/section (we
have 13 sections of 4 foot risers, and each section consists of 3 steps, 4th
step and back row rail). Management Team asks us all to try to find a buyer.
The new risers will be here in about 2 weeks!
~Pam Howell is the new Taping Program Coordinator and NEEDS HELP:
"someone in the chorus to type up, maintain (with all the changes made)
and be able to email back to me the wordsheets for any qualifying songs for any
contest or performance. Interested people please contact me at
Doug-Pam@worldnet.att.net." Pam would like to hear any IDEAS you might
have for improving the taping program, so we’ll be able to get optimum results
when we tape again before Nashville. Pam says E-mail is her preferred
communication tool.
~New Member Quiz: Does "After Glow" have anything to do
with Chernobyl? And who is Mike Tester? Janet Young and Josie Robinson will
reveal answers to these and other mysteries at a COMPETITION INFO SESSION Wed,
Feb 20, 7 pm at Koebel Library at 5955 S. Holly (SW corner of Orchard &
Holly). Find out all about make-up, costuming, customs and quirks of Sweet
Adelines competitions. Please let Janet or Josie know if you will be attending.
~March 16 Dress Rehearsal at Consistory. Noon: rehearsal and
preparation. 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm: Show (It’s free. Invite your family and friends
to come cheer us on to competition.)
~March 26 will be a dark night. (no rehearsal)
~CHORUS ELECTIONS approach! Is it your turn to serve on the
management team? Please think about it. This spring we will be voting to fill
these two-year-term offices: Special Events Manager; Financial Manager;
Music Manager. Communications Manager and Secretarial Manager each have one
more year left in their term. We also need candidates for the one-year-term
appointed positions: Team Manager, Visual Manager, and Education Manager. To be
considered for a Team Management position, a member must be in good standing
(all financial obligations must be current) and she should have been a member
(in good standing) of Skyline for at least one year.
~ "LAMPS NEEDED FOR COMPETITION JUDGES. We will be having an
Approved
Candidate Judges workshop during our competition, so we will
actually have four extra trial scorers. We would like for each to have their
own "personal lamp" over their workspace. The ones we have stand
about 1 foot tall (although the lamp height is adjustable.) If you have a lamp
like this that we can borrow for the competition weekend, please email Diane
Kessel (dkessel@ix.netcom.com) or call her at 303-987-1546."

Warm-Up CDs and/or Tapes. She says that will make it much easier for her to
"‘seek you out" and conclude the transaction. No extra charge for
delivery service." That way she can get the job done without delaying her

~Sandy McCord says "I need a ride down to Colorado Springs
for regional competition. I am the page for the Trial Scorers and I need to be
in Colorado Springs Friday afternoon before 3:00 so that I can attend the
C&J Meeting at 4:00 p.m. Also a ride home." Please let Sandy know if
you can help.
~Let’s be sure to leave our rehearsal room in spotless condition
after rehearsals. ITEMS LEFT BEHIND will be pitched out from now on. Sorry, but
it just makes too much work for the last ones out the door if they have to be
sorting left over papers and cleaning up our empty soda pop cans. We can all
make it a habit to take one quick moment to "press our toe" and focus
on what should be going home with us. We can even take time to place the chairs
neatly around the tables. When words are said about Skyline, we’d prefer
"class act," to "high maintenance."

guarantee the room, names of those staying in the room, arrival date, departure

Nashville, Skyline rehearses on the International risers from 1-3 pm on
Tuesday, Nov 5. On Nov 6, Skyline rehearsal and quartet semi-finals. Nov 7. at
11 am, chorus semifinals. Quartet finals are Friday. Chorus finals are
Saturday, Nov 9. Return home Sunday.
We need RAFFLE ITEMS for our booth at regional. Three baskets will
be raffled - each having a different theme. So, please bring items to go with
these themes and give them to Liz Simmons: *Chocolate*; *Romance*; *Garden*
Vocal Edge needs people to work raffle booth shifts at regional
competition. If you can help, please contact Liz Simmons, Sandy Morrison, Karen

Adelines
Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to
do, and how to be, I learned in Sweet Adelines. Wisdom is not in a book or at
the top of the corporate ladder, but there on the risers at chorus rehearsal.
These are the things I learned: Try everything. Match your neighbor’s vowel.
Don't muscle, it’s not pretty. Climb over the railing if you want the best
view. Learn your notes. Don't sing with a quartet unless you are invited. Grin
and fake it if you forget the words. Hold onto your crown before you take a
bow. Focus. Warm-ups and water are good for you. Live a balanced chorus life.
Sing some and work some and learn and dance and laugh and cry and dream some
every day. Go to rehearsal every week. And when you go out into the world to
sing, watch the director, hold hands and sing like you might never sing again.
Be aware of the other three parts. Remember the barbershop cone. The four parts
go together and the overtones go up and no one really knows how or why, but we
all ring chords like that. And then remember the Ready, Set, Grow program and
the first song you learned and the biggest song of all: HARMONIZE THE WORLD.
Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The preservation of
barbershop and love and basic manners. Harmony and growth and sound living.
Think of what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world -laughed
and loved and sang one night every week. Or, if our nation and all nations had
a basic policy to always respect the other parts and to make sure that everyone
has a window. And, it is still true, no matter how long we've been Sweet
Adelines, that when we go out into the world to sing, it is best for us to hold
hands and sleep quad.
