Iowans experienced record-breaking snowfall in December 2000. Every other day, it snowed--not just light snow, but inches. By New Year's Eve, Iowans were buried in at least a foot and a half of the powder.
These photographs were taken in early December. They include (clockwise from the top) a shot of the Des Moines River looking north of downtown, a shot of the northeast side of downtown Des Moines, a park bench buried in snow and the sidewalk along a snow route.
