In His Heart, Emily

I am a recent graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH, which is known for being rather Catholic itself. I had the good fortune to go to Austria in the Fall of 1997, and towards the middle of that semester, Ambassador Alan Keyes came to speak to us. I didn't know who he was at the time, but I remember his speech. Despite the hard chairs, the long day, and the sleepless nights, he impressed me as a man *extremely* well-educated (a big thing for me today - I'm afraid I'm something of a snob when judging others, mea culpe), a man incredibly devout and devoted to our Lord and Saviour and His precepts - no matter the cost - and, dare I say it? - a man revolutionary. At the time he spoke to us, he mentioned his stand on Income Tax as a form of slavery. I confess that as an indigent student with no income TO tax I didn't quite grasp the full meaning of this - but I do now.

I have since followed his career with great interest. At the Iowa debate, when the candidates were asked for their views on the recent president's conduct, every other candidate naturally blamed the president for his actions and looked sorrowful. Alan Keyes was the ONLY ONE who laid the blame on ALL OF US for condoning such a man.

Yes - he is Catholic. Yes - I truly believe with my limited sight that he is the one at this time who is called by God to lead America back to our Creator. Do I sound a bit fanatic? I suppose I might. But we CANNOT CHANGE *ANY* part of our nation, unless we first change the heart. I have long felt so, and to hear a man of such integrity proclaiming the same, I can only agree and offer my fullest support.

Recently, I have been praying to St. Joseph for his intercession on behalf of this nation, specifically for the election of Alan Keyes to the Presidency. We *deserve* the likes of Bill Clinton and his get. We must throw ourselves on the Mercy of Our Heavenly Father for a shepherd such as Alan Keyes. Socrates in "The Republic" made the oft-quoted statement that until kings were philosophers, we should never have a good government. I shall remedy this statement for a world blessed with His Revelation: Until our President is a Godly man, we shall never have a Republic - we shall only have a tyranny.

Every day we give up another right. We have given up the right to Life under the names of Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. We have abandoned Life, by which we can enjoy Liberty and Joy on this Earth. The dead know this. We have given up the right to free speech in favour of libertine grunts. We have given up the right to bear arms and have offered our hands for the chains of sentiment and kindliness. We have given up the right to peaceful assembly, and then are amazed when our individual inclinations are not granted, when we are domineered by conglomerates, when riots are more common than prayer. We have given up our right to religion! By this we have given up the very right of our Fathers who traveled here! By this we have denied our very origins! In the name of "tolerance" we have coddled aetheism. In the name of "compassion" we have coddled Satan. We cry peace - peace at any price. And we have only begun to pay the price. Oh, we shall be given a Hellish peace - once we have murdered our offspring, smothered our parents, and then killed ourselves - in the pursuit of Liberty and Happiness - yes there is "peace" among the dead, and death with such a "peace." With every concession we not only allow for the death of a life, but for the death of our soul which WILL live on! We can no longer behave as sleepwalkers - we cannot afford to give in to half-morals, half-truths, half-goods. Chesterton in his "Orthodoxy" very rightly stated that it is not the wild vices that are afflicting our times, but the wild virtues! Peter Kreeft in "Ecumenical Jihad" affirmed this - saying that in the name of "compassion" and "kindliness" we are allowing monstrosities to happen in our very midst - and at times by our very hands.

Therefore, we cannot vote just to vote in one party or another. We cannot vote just to defeat the other guy. We cannot vote just because the media tells us who will win. If we do not vote according to what will best please God - then we are wasting the awesome responsibility - the "talent," if you will - that our Saviour placed in our hands through the United States of America. We need not settle for a "middle ground" which looks suspiciously like a handbasket en route to very chill depths. WE NEED NOT SETTLE. My vote is for Alan Keyes as Republican Candidate, and from there to President. And if he is not a candidate, I may write him in for I do not intend to face my God, my children, or myself years later and confess that I am guilty of the dreadful sin of sloth. I pray that my vote is God's will. I pray that the Lord has mercy on our nation. I pray that He has mercy on us all.

Please forgive me my diatribe. I am but young, and the fire has not yet been dimmed in me. I light up perhaps too easily. I urge you to look at Alan Keyes' website for more information on his stance, and I urge you to listen to each of the candidates with especial interest and a mind guided by the Holy Spirit. My brothers and sisters, may God bless you and keep you safe in His Most Sacred Heart during this momentous Jubilee Year! Praised and blessed be the Name of Jesus Christ now and forever! Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph for his Intercession
Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires. Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessing, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the Most Loving of Fathers.

Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls - pray for me.

This prayer was found in the 50th year of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
