The Echoes Of Joy - a gospel quartet formed by Eugene McDaniels at the age of eleven.

The Five Echoes (members in 1953 Willie Barnes, Eugene McDaniels, James Farmer, Jimmy Mimms and ? ------ Jimmy Mimms left group shortly after it was formed and was replaced by Richard Beasley, at this time Wesley Devreaux (the son of the famous blues shouter Wynonie Harris) also joined group)

Trivia

Gene McDaniels appeared in the British rock film "It's Trad, Dad" in 1962, which was retitled "Ring-A-Ding-Rhythm" in the U.S.A.
Gene McDaniels penned the modern day jazz standard "Compared To What" for his old friend Les McCann, who along with Eddie Harris had a 1969 hit with it on ATANTIC 2694. Song was also a Northern fave as covered by Mr. Flood's Party in 1971 on GM 714.
Gene McDaniels wrote "Feel Like Makin' Love" a 1974 hit for Roberta Flack on ATLANTIC 3025. (who also covered "Compared To What" in 1969 on ATLANTIC 2665)
