Then Jeremo turns around. "Captain! Picking up a distress signal! It is Klingons, they're under attack!"
You quickly check your panel. "Confirmed," you say, out of habit. It is not necessary to speak up unless it is not confirmed, but you have been at it at so long it comes naturally. Jeremo doesn't care.
"Put it through," says Captain Yot, turning back to the viewscreen.
"This is Klingon commander Kapult. Our ship is under attack by a cube, we believe it is the Borg. We are requesting urgent assistance. Repeat, under attack by the Borg! Require emergency assistance…" The screen fuzzed out and was gone.
"It is a repeat signal," says Jeremo.
"Other ships in range?" asks Captain Yot.
"None," you say.
"That's too bad. We do have a schedule to keep. Opinions! Burnie?"
"I say we let the Klingons fight their own battle!"
"Jeremo?"
"Sir, although we have a schedule, we are under a treaty with the Klingons, and should help."
"Alia?" asks Captain Yot. You know you will be next, and could tie or turn the vote.
"We should definitely save them! They're probably just innocent people, on a routine mission." Ross snorts.
"You have something to say, Mr. Ross?" asks Captain Yot.
"Well, sir, it's just…we should really keep schedule. Starfleet regulations…"
"We're not worried about regulations! We're worried about people's lives! Commander Farley?" It is all up to you now. The votes are 2-2 and both have good arguments. To keep on schedule is definitely the way you were trained. On the other hand, people were dying out there. What do you choose?
"What are we waiting around for? Klingons are dying," you say.
