ROYAL SVEA ARTILLERY REGIMENT

History:
The regiment was raised in 1794 when the Royal artillery regiment was
devided into four parts, Svea - , Göta - , Finlands - and Wendes artillery regements.
In 1811 the regiment was reinforced by two companies from the disbanded Finnish
artillery regiment. In 1889 two companies where used to create Vaxholms artillery
corps. In 1893 two batteries where used to create Norrlands artillery regiment, and
two batteries where used to create II. Svea artillery regiment. Thus the
regiment was known as I. Svea artillery regiment between 1893 and
1904. The regiment was located in Stockholm until 1963 when it was relocated to
Linköping. The regiment was disbanded in 1997.
