Italian Breadsticks
1 pkg active dry yeast 2/3 cup warm water 2-2 1/4 cup flour 1 1/2 tsp sugar 1 tsp garlic salt 1/4 cup shortening 1 tbsp water 1 egg white Dissolve yeast in 2/3 cup warm water. Add 1 cup flour, sugar, garlic and shortening. Blend at low speed until moist. Beat 3 minutes by hand. Stir in additional 1 - 1 1/4 cups flour to form a soft dough. Place dough into a greased bowl. Let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 30-40 minutes. Grease 15x10x1 inch baking pan. On lightly floured surface, knead dough about 10 times or until it is not sticky. Roll into the pan. Cut into 12 strips lengthwise then cut in half the other way. Combine 1 tablespoon water and egg white, blend well. Brush onto the strips. Cover, let rise 15-20 minutes. Heat oven to 375*. Bake 18-22 minutes.
