9/5/05 | Would you believe people are still downloading the ITSP even today? 175 megs of traffic just this month. I'm shocked, honestly, but gratified to know that the DJO Community, especially, is continuing to use our work after all this time. Thanks to everyone that supported ImpTac in the past, and the old XvT Community in general. As long as you guys continue to use this stuff, I'll keep it up. - Mav Out |
Known Ship Patch Quirks - READ THESE!
GRAPHICS -The TIE Oppressor and Nighthawk Battlecruiser textures distort when not hardware accelerated. Basically, this means that they look like crap when viewed in the craft database or before a mission, however, if you have a 3D card of any kind (standard on most new computers within the past 2 years), they will look normal in flight.
COCKPITS - The E-Wing does not have it's own cockpit and instead uses the Gunboat cockpit. UPDATE; E-Wing now has a rudimentary cockpit in BoP! If there's enough interest, it might get its own someday; the same goes for the Stormtrooper Transport. The B-Wing cockpit is not fully functional in XvT; certain guages (like the lasers and their online indicators) don't work. All extremely critical stuff (like radar and CMD) work correctly. You may also notice that some craft have no engine noise... It's nice to think of it as advanced soundproofing technology, but actually it's an unresolvable technical issue. Sorry about that.
CRAFT SELECTION SCREEN - The Shuttle looks like a X-Wing, the Stormtrooper Transport and Star Viper bring up a blank. This has to do with the fact that these ships were never designed to be flown. Rest assured, when you start the mission, you WILL be flying them. If you don't believe me, check the external view by pressing the forward slash key on your numberpad.
USAGE - This is probably the most frequently asked question, so read it well. In order to keep your patched copy of XvT compatible with everyone else's on the Zone, patch craft are not available for selection in the original XvT missions. You may only use the patch craft in missions specifically designed for it, such as the included Ship Patch Furballs. However, there is a special treat in the works. In conjunction with some other designers, I'm in the process of converting all of the normal XvT missions to versions which do use the Ship Patch and can be installed without overwriting your old missions, thus insuring compatibility. Also, some new versions of the Ship Patch Furballs are in the works which will be more fully featured, allowing you to choose from any now-flyable craft in the game. Coming soon, to this very page! Now, go on down for the main attraction!
Remember, you must install XvT, then BoP, then the XvT Patch, then the BoP Patch in that order.
Ship Patch 4.5 for XvT Only | 4.6 Megs | The new standard for XvT! All TIE Fighter craft fully functional with new graphics in XvT , almost all BoP craft availiable in XvT, and almost every craft in the game flyable with new cockpit graphics! Also several all new ships with new graphics and cockpits, including the TIE Oppressor, E-Wing, Star Viper, Nighthawk Battlecruiser, and ABSOLUTELY NO CRAFT REPLACEMENTS!!! Best of all it is 100% compatible with normal XvT on multiplayer! Now includes the Modified Strike Cruiser! |
Ship Patch 6.0 for BoP Only | 4.04 Megs | All of the new and improved features you love about the XvT Patch, and then some! Use them all in your campaigns, as well as several MORE toys from the old OPT Project... such as a GIANT space station, and several planets and atmospheres! Planetoids take practice to make missions with, but the results can be very rewarding. Also, several other odd craft are flyable, such as the Corellian Transport, Escort Shuttle, Scout Craft, and System Patrol Craft... however that doesn't neccesarily mean they're always GOOD to fly. This release also includes the fix listed below and the "Clunker Furball." Make sure you have the XvT Ship Patch installed first! |

Training Conversions Pack | 204k | This installs a new set of training missions; all of the original training missions (32 of them) converted to take advantage of the Ship Patch! You can fly all patch craft, and the missions are modified to be quite a bit more interesting with some new twists and ships as well. This does NOT overwrite your original training missions. |
Craft Lists for XvTEd | <1k | Unzip this to your XvTEd 1.0 directory, and your craft lists will be fully updated with Ship Patch 4.2 and BoP 4.3 craft. |
Common Misconceptions
The patch
makes it where I can't play with people who don't have it
installed.
False. The patch
doesn't change any of the normal ships or missions, it only adds
them. Obviously, you can't play any of the included ship patch
furballs with people who don't have the patch installed (if you
do, their mission screen will look blank and won't launch), but
as for the normal missions with normal ships, there is no
compatability problem whatsoever, that's why the patch doesn't
need an "on/off switch."
The patch
makes my conn more laggy
The patch doesn't
affect your conn in any way. As for some of the fast ships, the
problem is similarly exaggerated like the T/A. "T/D's don't
kill conns, conns kill conns!" Super-fast ships don't in
themselves make conns bad, contrary to popular belief. The
seemingly worse lag that sometimes happens with them is the
result of a typical bad connection, it just seems worse because
faster ships jump more in between refreshes. But, like I said,
this is the result of a pre-existing bad conn, not increased lag
caused by the ships, so I'm sticking up for the T/A and A-W here
too. If you have a normal, good conn, you won't have any
problems.
Some of those
new ships look like crap
Yes and no. The
problem with the TIE Oppressor and Nighthawk is that they look
crappy while in the craft database or select ship screen no
matter what; that's because 3-D acceleration isn't on while
you're in the shell. Once you're actually playing the game with a
3-D accelerator, they all look normal and great. If you don't
have a 3-D accelerator, they still look crappy in the game too,
unfortunately. It's a texturing bug; they still work fine for
game purposes, they'll just look like crap unless you have a 3-D
accelerator on.
