Part 11

The two friends entered the room in silence. Jenn was carrying Kristen's bag, and she walked into the room next to hers. She dropped the bag on the bed. " You can use this room. It has it's own bath, my room is next door." Jenn said as she looked anywhere but at Kris.

The author knew they had to talk about what had happened, and the sooner the better. "Thank you Jenn, you've been so good to me. Are you going to sleep now?" She asked. Jenn looked at her for the first time since they'd got out of the bungalow. " No, I'm going to take a shower first. Why? " Asked Jenn.

" I need a bath too, but I know we need to talk about what you heard down there." Kristen felt, nervous around Jenn and was trying to hide it. " I don't see the need to talk about it since I've already told you my opinion. But if it makes you feel better, give me a few minutes to shower and change, I'll be back to talk all you want. " Jenn said with a smile, and walked out the door. " I'll do the same. " Kris said towards the retrieving form of Jenn.

" Don't worry I got her. She's going to stay with me for now. No. No, she is in the shower. I don't want her to know I went out to look for her Jean… " Jenn's voice was muffled, and the sound of water running was making it hard for the author to eavesdrop, but Kristen had a great capacity of hearing. She listened carefully to the accountant's secret conversation with Jean, as she covered her mouth to stop herself from laughing.

" Listen Jean, let me handle this I don't want her to know, please. " Jenn pleaded. Kristen was touched by the kindness of the dark haired accountant. " Ok, I'll tell her but when I think it's appropriate. Yes... I promise. Now go to sleep. We can talk tomorrow. " Jenn hung up and Kristen walked back to her room thinking of the reason that had made her new friend go out to look for her. " She is so good to me. " The writer smiled at the thought.

A soft tap on the door brought Kristen out of her reverie. " It's open, come in." Kris said.
Jenn entered the room with a small towel and a bucket of ice. Jenn was wearing a white sleeveless tank top and a pair of boxer shorts with a Mickey Mouse print, and Kris thought she looked beautiful.

" Ok, I think it's time to treat that hand. Come here Rocky Balboa." Jenn sat on the bed, and patted the spot next to her for Kristen to sit. The author smiled at the way Jenn referred to her, and was pleased to know the accountant was still comfortable enough with her to tease her about what had happened.

" Rocky Balboa huh? You've seen nothing yet, " Kris kidded, as she sat beside Jenn.
" Let's wrap this deadly weapon with this towel, and then you can put it inside the ice bucket." Jenn said, still in her newly developed teasing mode.

Kris was relaxed by the way the accountant was behaving, and she felt so at ease near her.
" Stop making fun of me Jenn. " Said Kris between giggles. " I'm not making fun of you. It's true that you have a deadly weapon that nearly killed 5 people tonight." Jenn was wrapping Kristen's hand as she spoke." What are you talking about Jenn?" Asked a curious Kristen.

" Well, let me see; Steph nearly died from the surprise of seeing you hitting her girlfriend. The bitch nearly died from the anger of being punched, and the rest of us nearly died from the laughter."

Jenn placed Kristen's hand inside the bucket and smiled at her. Kristen smiled as well.
" Then it's true I really hit her. " The author looked surprised, she still doubted what had really happened, because she had been so blinded by the anger at the time of the argument.

" What do you mean? You weren't sure about what happened?" Jenn was surprised.
" I don't seem to remember what really happened, it's kind of a blur for me," Kristen said as she looked apologetically at the woman beside her.

Jenn felt the need to take the author in her arms, but instead she placed her arm around Kristen's shoulder and asked. " Do you want me to tell you what happened there?"
Kristen looked into the blue eyes of her new friend, and felt as if she were drowning in them. Kristen needed to look elsewhere, or she might react to the pull those baby blues had on her.

" I don't care much for what happened. What I need is to clear the air about what Jackie said. " Kristen fixed her eyes on the carpet, unable to face Jenn's eyes.
" Like I've told you before, I don't see the need for this conversation, but if it makes you feel better go ahead. " Jenn said, shifting uncomfortably in the bed. She wasn't sure what Kristen wanted to attain with this conversation.

" OK, let me explain something to you, and if you have questions feel free to ask them ok? I want you to think very carefully about this. " Kristen looked at her seriously. All Jenn could do was nod her head, as she was swallowed by the deep green of Kristen's eyes.
" First of all, I want you to know that I'd like us to be friends. It's like we've known each other since forever, and I really enjoy being with you." Kristen said, as she looked at Jenn.

" I feel the same way." The accountant said.

" I also wanted you to know all of what Jackie said is true; I'm gay and I haven't lived my life the best way possible. I've cheated. I've lied in all of my relationships, and always treated my partners poorly because I was never in love with them. The difference was they always knew about it, and stayed anyway."

The author was embarrassed about those admissions, and Jenn felt her heart melt at the sadness of Kristen's words. For some reason, Jenn knew it wasn't true at all. The kindness she had come to know in Kristen couldn't be a new development in her, and it was for hard Jenn to believe that the author had been mean to anyone.

" If you excuse me I find it hard to believe, Kristen. " Jenn said, looking directly into the green orbs of the author. Kristen looked up with unshed tears; she was the perfect picture of a scared little girl. " What do you mean? " She asked.

" I don't believe you hurt people just for fun. And in case you did, that's in the past, because the Kristen O'Rourke I've met doesn't seem to be a selfish bitch. I can give faith that in the time we've spent together, I've never felt like you've tried to take advantage of me; nor get me in bed, I know I'm not the most beautiful woman in the world, but I'm sure the Kristen, Jackie talked about would have tried to get any kind of woman, just to set a score, or to have a play pet during her vacation. Am I right or what?"

Jenn was pacing in front of the bed, and the tall beauty entranced Kristen. Kris couldn't believe the fierce way in which the accountant defended her from herself. " You're right Jenn, I'm not that woman anymore, but the truth is I was, and I can't deny that either," The blonde said sadly.

" My point exactly. I'm glad I got to meet the 'you' now, and for me that's all that matters. There's no need to look back, and you should do the same. It seems pretty stupid to stop being friends with you because of your past." Jenn concluded.

" But people will talk, and they might think that you and I… I mean that we are… you know…related." Kristen said the last word with a different intonation, as she moved her eyebrows up and down to give more emphasis to the double meaning she wanted to give to the word.Jenn looked at Kris, and couldn't help but laugh. Jenn laughed so hard, that her sides hurt. She threw herself on the bed beside Kristen, until she could talk again. The author was laughing too, because Jenn's laugh was contagious.

Once they sobered up the accountant said. " Oh man, that was funny."

" Why?" Asked a curious Kris.

" Because the press already think that we are related. " Jenn said with the same intonation Kris had used.

" And you're laughing about that?" Said a concerned Kristen.

" It's nothing really. The people who know me won't believe it even for a second, and your friends already know it's not true. The only thing that could happen is with some luck my grandpa dearest will have a heart attack, which won't be a bad thing at all." Jenn said, smiling nonchalantly.

The last statement opened up a lot of questions in the author's mind, and she spoke without thinking." Why do you hate him so much? "Jenn lost her smile immediately and focused her eyes on the colorful comforter on the bed. "I don't want to talk about it," was her only reply. The petite blonde wasn't someone to give up easily.

" I understand, but if we are going to be friends we need to trust each other. I've already bared part of my soul with you, and it felt good to have someone to talk about my problems. Let's make a deal. You ask something you want to know about me, and I have to answer truthfully. Then, I get to ask you, and you'll answer as well. What do you think?" Kristen smiled sweetly at Jenn.

It was clear they were exhausted after the long night. The taller woman was unable to resist the smile the author was giving her, and decided to agree with the petite author.
" Ok you got yourself a deal, O'Rourke. " Jenn said, much to her own surprise. " Great, I'll let you ask first." Kris said, trying to hide a yawn.

Jenn was lost in thought. Every time Jenn looked at Kristen, her mind took a leave of absence. The sight of the beautiful blonde acting so natural, and being so close to her, overwhelmed the accountant, but she hadn't discovered why yet. " Hey, Jenn, are you ok?" Asked a concerned Kristen.

"Yeah, sorry. I spaced out for a minute. You were saying?" Jenn responded quickly.
" I said you can ask first, but if you want we can try this another time." The blonde said.
" No, it's ok. But just one question, and then off to sleep, you need to rest." Jenn said, smiling. " Ok, shoot." Joked Kris.

Jenn kept quiet for a moment and then looked directly at Kris. " What made you change the way you were living?" Kristen's face suddenly went somber, and her eyes showed so much sorrow, Jenn regretted it, the moment she asked the question. Kristen breathed deeply, cleared her throat, and braced herself for what she knew was a hard tale to tell." It's very hard for me to talk about this, but I'll answer truthfully.

Eight months ago I went out dancing with some of my acquaintances, I was in my house in Dallas where I always spent my free time. I drank too much that night, and feeling adventurous, I set a bet with another girl from the group to see who could find a bed partner faster that night. I had my eyes upon a very beautiful woman who seemed very taken with me. She wasn't a regular at the club, because I had never seen her before, and I decided she was the one.

We talked for a while, and then we left the club, she took me to her hotel room. When I woke up that morning I was alone in the room, on the bedside table I found 400 dollars and a napkin that said "Thank You." I felt like a cheap whore. Life had slapped me in the face, and it was time to wake up. I've never felt so low in my life. That morning, I promised myself to change, I moved out of Dallas, cleaned up my act, and I haven't dated anyone since then." As the author finished her story, her head was bowed, avoiding eye contact with the tall dark haired woman.

Jenn was feeling a myriad of emotions she couldn't understand. The anger that Jenn felt towards the woman who had treated the blonde so poorly, and the growing need to protect her, overwhelmed the accountant in a way she didn't expect. Kris cleared her throat one more time, and tried to take the accountant out of her reverie.

" So, that's the main reason for my new behavior. Very pathetic, don't you think?" Kris joked bitterly. Jenn looked at her directly in the eyes, and spoke the words slow, and seriously. " You are a very special woman, Kristen O'Rourke. Don't let anybody make you feel less, not even yourself. It takes a lot of courage to make a decision like that, and stick with it. You should be very proud of yourself."

Jenn was still looking into the green orbs, entranced by their beauty. Neither of them ready to break the magic yet. " Thank you. It also takes a very open minded person to stay by my side after what I've told you. " Kris said giving the accountant a way out if she wanted.
" Believe me when I tell you this is taking me by surprise too, I grew up with a very closed minded father who hated gays with passion." Jenn said absentmindedly.

They were seated on the bed, side, by side with their backs on the headrest of the bed, Jenn's legs went a lot farther that Kristen's. They had been in companionable silence since Jenn's comment, each one submerged in their own thoughts. The accountant noticed the difference between their legs, and couldn't stop a chuckle.

Kristen asked immediately. "What's so funny?"

" Ah…nothing just remembered something. " Jenn said nonchalantly. " Tell me." Insisted Kris. " No, it's ok let's forget it. " The accountant couldn't keep the smile off her face.

" C'mon you big goof tell!! " Kris said, as she poked Jenn in the side, finding the exact spot where Jenn was ticklish. The accountant jumped at the contact and began laughing hard.

" Stop that!" Jenn said between giggles." Ticklish huh? Talk, or I'll tickle you to death. " Kris was in her element. She loved the way that the accountant laughed, and it was the perfect excuse to keep touching the beautiful woman.

" No, please, I can't control my reactions, and I don't want to hurt your hand." Jenn said.
"Ok, I'll stop, but you have to tell me everything you know." Kristen said, moving the fingers of her left hand menacingly.

" Ok I was thinking about the fit you threw when I called you little girl, the first time we met. You look like small child now, sitting beside me." Jenn said smiling. " I might be vertically challenged, but rest assured, I can hold my own very good. Don't ever under estimate me. " Kristen said flexing her arm to show her muscles on her arms and firm abs.
Jenn felt warm all of the sudden.

"We'll see about that when your hand gets better Rocky." Jenn teased.
"I can take you out if I want, you know that?" Kris continued to say, pleased by the effect she was having on the dark haired accountant. " Like I said, we'll take care of that when your hand is healed." Jenn said, still wondering why the room was so hot all of the sudden.
" Deal!! " An excited Kristen said.

They were both exhausted, and the accountant was trying hard to stay awake. Kristen noticed, and decided to call it a night. " I think it's time for us to get some sleep." Commented Kris.

Jenn yawned, with sleepy eyes she looked at Kristen. " What about your question? It's your turn to ask. "Kristen found the sight of a sleepy Jenn endearing. The moment was perfect to ask the question that had been bothering Kris for some time now. " Ok, I'll ask, and after that is off to bed with you miss." Kristen smiled at Jenn,

" Shoot me Rocky. " Teased Jenn. Kristen braced herself, " Why do you hate your grandfather so much?" The author held her breath, as she waited for the answer.
Jenn took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a second, then started to talk.
" First, he never accepted my parent's relationship, and made their lives miserable. Second, he was the cause of my father's death. Third, he thinks money can buy everything. And fourth, I don't want him in my life, and he keeps trying to win me with material things; I'm not for sale. " Jenn finished, her face showed no emotion.

Kristen felt so sad for her new friend. Kristen knew deep inside Jenn was hurting. The loneliness in Jenn's words was nearly palpable. Instinctively Kristen took her hand, and gave it a little squeeze. She then took Jenn's cheek on the palm of her hand so she could look directly into the blue orbs as she talked lovingly. " I'm so sorry Jenn, I've shouldn't have asked." Jenn took Kristen's hand and kissed her knuckles.

" Don't worry a deal is a deal. I always keep my word. Now you know why I don't like to talk about him. "Jenn dropped her hands when she noticed how intimately their hands were linked. " Sometimes I regret not having a family, but its moments like these when I understand families aren't perfect. " Kristen said pensively.

They were exhausted after the long night, and slowly they fell asleep right there, side by side on Kristen's bed.
