Part 8

Kristen shut her eyes and opened them again to find Jenn's dampened face looking back at her with a questioning look. There was no trace of the passionate woman that had been nestled between her legs seconds ago, she felt like crying " Oh, God don't do this to me; please it can't be a dream." The writer remained lying on the sand, looking up at the beautiful face of the woman she'd just dreamt about. She wished that someday the dream would come true. She didn't know how her voice would sound after that revelation to herself, she opted to remain silent as long as she could.

" Kris are you ok? "

Jenn was seriously concerned about the well being of her new friend. She'd noticed the author asleep on the sandy shore and making strange noises, she'd decided to let her rest until the noises she had been making were loud enough to attract the attention of passers by. Jenn had got out of the water to wake her up.

" Kris, what happened, talk to me you're worrying me here."

Jenn cupped the writer's cheek in her hand and Kris felt another jolt of electricity from the touch. It made her draw away from Jenn's hand; this took the accountant by surprise. Jenn moved her hand away from Kristen. The blonde noticed the hurt look on Jenn's face and felt bad, but she couldn't control her reaction. She was afraid that she would get carried away by the dream, and scare her beautiful new friend away. It was time to test her voice,

" I'm ok Jenn thanks, I think I fell asleep there. " Kris tried to smile but failed miserably.

" Were you having a bad dream? God you made the strangest noises when you were asleep. " Jenn teased.

" You have no idea my friend." Kris thought as she started to get up with Jenn's help.

" C'mon let's get you something to drink, you've been exposed to the sun enough for today. "

Jenn took Kris's hand in her larger one and began leading her towards the little oasis near them. The petite writer noticed the warmth of Jenn's hand and thought about letting go, but decided against it. She wanted to enjoy every moment of contact she could get with the tall stranger, and with even more reason if the one who initiated it was the accountant herself.

The new friends walked towards the refreshment booth still holding hands, Jenn was acting on impulse and wasn't aware of her actions, Kris was more than pleased with the protectiveness the tall accountant was displaying. They were so immersed in their own thoughts that neither of them noticed a man taking pictures nearby.

When they reached the booth Jenn noticed their linked hands and reluctantly let go of Kristen's. The author felt the loss of warmth immediately and tried not to look disappointed.

" What do you want to drink?" Asked the dark haired beauty, avoiding eye contact with the author.

She was ashamed of the protective display she'd put on just minutes ago and wasn't sure how the writer would react to her. Kristen felt Jenn's uneasiness and tried to put her at ease with one of her charming smiles. "Iced tea. Please."

They took their refreshments and decided to go back to the hammock where they had left their belongings earlier. Jenn wanted to sit on the sand but Kristen insisted that they could share the hammock and she wouldn't take no for an answer. The defeated accountant sat next to Kris.

Whilst they were sipping their drinks Jen asked.  " Are you sure you're feeling ok to go on the water bikes?"  Blue eyes were filled with genuine concern about the well being of the petite writer. Kris was so taken by the way Jenn was acting towards her that she couldn't place exactly what she was feeling.

" This woman is gorgeous, I can't believe the way she is treating me, with such innocence, can I trust her? Or is she trying to win my favor?"

" What are you thinking O'Rourke? You don't know if the woman is gay or just friendly. Don't start seeing things that aren't really there; you're going to ruin everything, be careful."

" I told you to go away, why do you never listen?"> " Because I'm as hard headed as you are"

" Oh, Please let me be!!!!"

Kristen let out a sigh; she was so immersed in her inner battle that didn't hear what Jenn had asked. The accountant was looking intently at the range of emotions crossing Kristen's face. It was obvious that she was deep in thought about something unpleasant and that it was bothering her big time.

" Kris?"

The sound of her name said in that silky voice brought Kris back to reality. "Yes?"

" Are you sure you're feeling ok? Maybe it's better for you if we go back to the hotel and leave the water bike ride for another time."

The author smiled at the thoughtfulness of the dark haired beauty.

" I'm ok really, I was thinking of something but it's nothing important. I'm sorry if I worried you."

" Sure?"

Jenn asked again, for some odd reason she needed to ask the writer one more time just to reassure herself. Kris looked into the blue orbs and couldn't hide the smile that graced her face, " This woman makes me feel so good." She thought.

" I'm fine really, cross my heart, " She said as she made a cross on her chest.

" Let's go, or is it you that's backing away from this? Are you scared that I might beat you at a race?" Kris teased.

" I don't think so, it's my favorite hobby and I always win." Jenn replied with a smile.

" Let's go then, because we don't have much time. Remember that we have to be at the gala tonight."

With that, the author started walking towards the rental booth. When she realized that Jenn wasn't following her, she turned around to see the accountant's worried face as she slapped her forehead with her hand and saw more that heard the word 'shit' fall from Jenn's lips.

" Hey! What's wrong?" Kris asked as she reached Jenn's side.

" I completely forgot about the gala tonight and didn't made the appointment at the beauty salon. I can't go there with my hair looking like this." Jenn was visibly distressed.

Kris smiled knowingly, " Don't worry I'll help you." She said confidently.

" You can't fix my hair Kris, you have to be there earlier than me."

Jenn looked at Kris with sad eyes. Kris started laughing hard at the sight before her, " Is that a pout? Jeez she looks so sweet when she does that." The petite blonde tried to calm herself to explain her plans to the tall accountant who was at a loss in front of her.

" No Jenn, I couldn't fix your hair even if I tried, but my crew should be arriving today and I have Jean Carlo with me. He is the best hairdresser I've had, I'm sure he would love to fix your hair. Don't worry, let's have fun ok?"

Kris took Jenn's larger hand in hers and began walking again.

" Ok, let's hope he wants to do it."

Jenn let Kris guide her towards the rental booth.

" I'm sure he will, since I have my hair short, he's been complaining about the lack of work he has. He is going to love working with your hair, it's so beautiful." Kris said as an afterthought.

The water bike ride turned out to be a competition between the new friends both spent their time frolicking in the water and racing each other like a pair of teenagers, completely unaware of the curious eyes watching them from the shore. When they decided to head back Kris's bike shut down.

" Oh shit!!!! Now what?" Asked an annoyed Kris.

" Let's leave it here and share this one. I'm sure it's out of gas; they can come back to get it later." Jenn said.

" I'm not sure if we'll both fit on that bike, maybe it's better if you go and I wait here. "

Kris felt that she couldn't be so close to the accountant, and sharing the bike was going to put her in a very intimate position with Jenn. Her libido was boosted, just by thinking about sitting between the taller woman legs.

" Kris there's no way I'm going to leave you here all alone, come here and let's go back before it's late maybe this one is running out of gas too."

Jenn was starting to get worried; they were far from the shore.

Kris didn't have much time to think so she took a deep breath, jumped off her bike and reached for Jenn's hand that pulled her up onto the bike.

" Ok, now you sit here between my legs and I'll scoot back."

Kris felt the heat of Jenn's body and the signs of arousal started in her body.

" Stay calm, you horny little shit, she's only trying to help you, get your mind out of the gutter O'Rourke. "

Jenn reveled in the softness of Kris's skin and how good she felt near her as she maneuvered the bike towards the shore. They were sitting in a very compromising and suggestive position and the silent spectator on shore didn't hesitate to use his camera again.

Half an hour later with her entire body tingling and a blush on her face, Kris found herself gathering her belongings and trying to get rid of the 'impure' thoughts that had been on her mind since she'd felt the heat coming from Jenn's body. " You have it bad girl, stop this nonsense now before you have to take matters into your on hands, literally speaking."

Jenn was ready to go and decided to check on their boat ride. She'd had a great time with Kris. " It's been years since I felt so at ease with someone. Marge was right, I'd better enjoy it while it lasts." She thought as she looked at the boat approaching the small dock on the island. Her thoughts had somewhat saddened her and before she could feel any more depressed, Kris was at her side to make her smile again.

" Hey!! Did you check us in for the ride?" The author said.

Jenn was startled by the sudden arrival of the petite blonde but welcomed her with a smile of her own.

" Yeah, we're in luck because we got the last two spaces. "

Jenn wondered how this small woman managed to make her smile so often "I've smiled more in this last couple of days than in my entire life."

The ride back was a smooth one and the pair spent their time getting to know each other a little more.

" So. You always travel with your crew, hairstylist and all?" Asked Jenn.

" Not always, only when I'm doing book signings and special personal appearances. This one though is a personal matter, for all of us. Wait until you get to meet the girls they're great."

Kris spoke with enthusiasm; she loved the people that worked around her so much.

" The girls?" Jenn was curious.

" Yeah, there's Isabelle who works directly with public relations, Marie who's representing the editorial house and Jean who's my hairdresser as I've told you before. Those three share a room next to mine. Stephiny is my manager and best friend she's going to stay with me. They'll be here any moment now."

" Then they're not all girls." Jenn corrected.

Kris smiled broadly " Maybe it's time to test the waters with her," she thought.

" Well, technically not but I'll assure you Jean is more feminine than any of the other girls including myself, if you know what I mean. "

Kris winked at Jenn. The tall accountant decided to make no comment to Kris' about the hairdresser's sexual orientation. She too had a stylist who was gay but for her that was a much too sensitive matter and she preferred to avoid it. Kris for her part noticed the change on her new friend's face and decided it was time for a more direct approach. She wasn't going to waste her time being friends with a homophobic woman.

" Do you have a problem with gay people, Jenn?"

The question startled the accountant and for the first time in her life she pondered the question to herself, her eyes closed. " Do I?" She thought and deep inside she knew that the scars left by the woman she'd never met and the pain she'd gone through because of her, still affected her in her life as a grown up. Traces of her conversation with Marge that morning came back with a vengeance, " You never heard her side of the story you don't know why she left. C'mon JJ, be reasonable you are a grown up now."

When she opened her eyes she was confronted by shining emerald orbs filled with concern and a little bit of anger. She knew the author was waiting for her answer and suspected she wasn't going to wait much longer.

" Not with all gay people Kris, just with someone in particular."
Jenn noticed how the expression on the writer's face relaxed and she found herself letting out a breath she didn't know she'd been holding. Kris smiled, relieved but she still wasn't sure about Jenn's point of view on the issue. " I need to press the subject now and lose her if it's necessary. Better sooner than later, I don't like surprises." She thought.

" Are you sure? Let me tell you that Jean has been my cousin's partner for five years now and I love both of them dearly; they are very open about their relationship and I don't want you to feel uncomfortable because of that. Also, Issa and Marie are a couple, I know there are people who can't stand being near gay people and I don't want any misunderstandings between us, Jenn."
Kris spoke the words slowly to avoid being misinterpreted by the accountant. Jenn was taken aback by the information Kris was giving her but recovered quickly.

" I won't let my past rule my present, this issue with my family is over." She thought and smiled at Kris.

" There's no problem at all Kris, I would love to meet your friends."

They arrived at the small dock near the hotel and began their walk towards the bus that was going to take them back to the hotel. Once in the lobby of the hotel they were ready to say goodbye when someone yelled at Kris and got the attention of the tall accountant.

" Hey Kristen!!! You are so busted! It's late, c'mon move, we don't have much time to get you ready, missy."
A very annoyed Jean was tapping his foot on the floor and looking menacingly at the young author.

" Well, hello to you too Jean how was your flight?" Kris smiled at the antics of her friend.

" It was good, but we really need to get going Kris; you know how these things are. Oh and who is this gorgeous thing you have here?" Jean looked Jenn up and down, making the accountant blush at his comments.

" Let me introduce you, Jean. This is Jennifer Heart the VP of Warrior Publications, she is here to make a donation on behalf of her company. Jenn this is Jean Carlo my hairdresser and friend."

The pair exchanged pleasantries and Kristen smiled at the confused look on Jenn's face.

" Jean, I told Jenn that you would love to fix her hair for tonight's gala, what do you say?" Kristen knew very well the answer but she wanted to see Jenn's expression at the exploits of the hairdresser.

" Oh my God!!!!! Oh my God!!!!! Oh my God!!!!! Really?? I would love to. You have beautiful hair, we can make magic here. "

Jean was babbling so fast that Jenn couldn't understand everything he said. Kris interrupted him.

" Jean just say yes and let's get going, we have to be there on time."

Kris was smiling at Jenn; the accountant was still dumbfounded.

" Ok, let me show you my room the Den of beauty, so you can find me when you're finished getting dressed."

The stylist took Jenn's hand and began walking towards the elevator Kristen following behind.

They reached the room and found Issa and Marie inside playing cards;

" Hey boss lady how's life treating you these days?" Issa greeted.

" Very good thank you, now cut the crap and tell me you got it or you're fired." Kristen had a menacing look on her face.

" Easy boss, remember she's my lady don't threaten her like that. It's frustrating her to think she could be jobless any minute. "

Marie was defending her girl. Jenn was listening carefully to the exchange.
" C'mon tell me you have it please." Kristen was trying hard not to beg and laugh at the same time.

" Okay now that you've asked nicely, I can assure you that I got it!!! Woohoo!!! And it's damn good my friend."

Issa jumped from the bed and took Kristen in her arms whilst Marie had a computer disk in her hand.

" Oh thank God, I think that's the best news I've had in a long time, give me my baby."

Jenn was at a loss as she saw Kris kiss the disk. She looked at Jean who was watching the exchange with a smile.

" I bet you don't have a clue of what is going on, " Said Jean.

" You can say that again." Jenn said with a shy smile.

" They are celebrating the new update on some story they read over the Internet; its called "R'Place" have you read about it?"

" I have no idea, I don't think I have. Who is the author?"

Jenn tried to remember something about that story but she was sure she hasn't read it.

" Her name is Minerva, they call her the Goddess. She is damn good and the girls loved that story, especially Kris. But that's girl stuff, I'm sure you don't spend your time reading love stories on the net." The stylist said nonchalantly.

" Well no, I don't but it has to be the hell of a story to drive those women crazy and if Kris likes it, she has to be good." Jenn replied.
" Don't get me wrong it is very good. I'm reading it myself; it's just that I'm not that crazy about it, but I have all the installments on my e-book if you want, I can lend it to you. Now, let me take a look at you to start thinking how I'm going to fix you hair, I bet you'll need make up too."

" I think so, my dress is black."

Jenn felt so at a loss about these beauty things, she'd never been interested in fashion at all.

" Ok, I think with those beautiful baby blues you'll just need a little touch of make up. I'm going to have fun working with you since Kris cut her hair short, things haven't been the same."

Jean sighed. Kris took a moment to check on her new friend.

"Hey, sorry I left you here, I went a little crazy about something I've been waiting for." She apologized to Jenn.

The accountant shrugged her shoulders as if to dismiss the issue. " It's ok, I need to go now. I'll see you at the gala."

Jenn smiled and left the room leaving behind a petite writer with a silly grin on her face.

" Hey!!! earth to Kris do you copy? " Jean teased.

" Cut it out Jean I'm fine, take your stuff and let's go to my room I need to get ready." Kris said.

" You can't leave before you tell us how you met that beautiful Amazon, you always have such good luck with women, Kris." Marie said from her spot on the bed next to her lover.

" Let's get the points clear here girls, she is the VP of Warrior Publications and she's here to make a donation at the gala on behalf of her company. She is just a friend and she doesn't know that I'm gay. Hell, I don't even know if she is straight or gay, if she has a boyfriend or girlfriend or whatever. So cut me some slack; I'm not trying to bed her, I just want to be friends with her, so please, be discreet."

Kristen talked seriously and her friends knew that the author cared for the tall accountant and it was not teasing material.

" Have I made myself clear?"

A low murmur of 'yes boss' was heard as she left the room. Jean busied himself looking for his work tools and when the author closed the door behind her…

" I bet ten bucks that those two end up in bed together," Jean said.

"Ten bucks!!! You're a miser, let's make a real bet: fifty bucks they get together within three days." Said Marie enthusiastically.

" Ok I'll give them a whole week." Said Jean.

Issa was silent.

" I don't know if Kris is trying to change her way of life, but the woman looked like she doesn't have a clue. I'll give them a month."

The trio shook their hands to seal the bet as a knock was heard at the door " I'm still waiting for you Jean." Kris's voice was heard through the closed door.

" Coming boss." The stylist replied. "Shit, she nearly caught us this time. See you later girls."

The hairdresser left the room quickly so as to not upset more the author.
