The C-73 Tracker is an antiquated starfighter predating the common and reliable Z-95 Headhunter and the TIE series. Most C-73s are in museums, but a few remain on the fringes of the galaxy. A few pirate groups are known to use either original C-73s or copies of them. Organizations such as the Virgillian Free Alignment (which are backed by the Rebellion) are known to employ the C-73. These starfighters are only useful against fairly slow and weak targets. This starfighter was one of Subpro Corporation's last designs before teaming up with Incom Corporation to produce the Z-95 Headhunter.

It is known that the Separatists employed C-73s. A day before Senator Amidala's J-Type Royal Naboo Cruiser was bombed on Coruscant, four C-73s along with a freighter attacked a Space Rescue Corps patrol cutter, Iron Tether on the border of the Lahara Sector. The C-73 has served the planetary defence of Guiteica well for decades, and continues to do so (as of one year before the Battle of Hoth). However, the fighter itself is considered an antique in more civilized systems and several are on display at the Imperial Stardrive Museum on Coruscant.
